I have to run the 200 meter dash today at 10:30 for a competition and i was wondering how should i run it without getting tired at the end? I always expell most of my energy at the beginning and sprint supper fast, but then when it gets to the finish i die off and dont end up sprinting. Which i know i should sprint the end. So if u have any tips it would be great!!

It is a sprint. You must start and build up your speed so that you are at top speed after 40 to 60 meters. When you come off the curve, stand up tall, keep your arms moving front to back not across your body. Relax. If you are running at top speed do not try to run faster. Keep the speed you have so you do not slow down as much as the other runners. You will be tired at the finish, but if you stay relaxed and keep your form and turn over rate going you will not slow down, you will continue to run fast. Think about pushing a large beach ball. It takes a lot of energy to get that thing moving, but once it is moving it only takes a small push to keep it going. That is kind of like running fast. Once you are at top speed it does not take the same amount of energy to keep going at top speed. When you are running fast be sure that your foot contacts the ground slightly in front of you, and you strike the ground with a pawing motion and the foot is moving rear ward at the same speed you are moving forward. Do not let your foot strike out in front of you this will slow you down.

You must learn to run relaxed. Once you are at top speed, don't keep trying to run faster. 200 runners are able to run the entire 200 without slowing significantly toward the end. You also need to do intervals to improve your ability to tolerate lactate, which is the reason your muscles tie up after sprinting long sprint distances. 5x250 with 3 minutes recovery, doing them very fast is one good day. You can also do 10x150, walk back for recovery to work on your speed and ability to run relaxed. The 200 is a sprint it is not a race where you can run easy and then kick, and be able to run a decent time.

For the future--train running long distance sometimes so you don't get worn out. Then sprint at the beginning and hold on.

The trick to running is a long stride and proper breathing.
