I’ve seen this question asked so many times by people here and the answer is its all relative. What is cheap might not be the best, what’s most expensive might not be the best either. It’s what’s important to you!

I’ve been an insurance agent since 1992 and have seen and had many different insurance carriers and it’s been my experience that Allstate is one of the best, at least in the top 5. They are not cheapest nor the most expensive but they do something that makes me a big fan of there’s and that is they pay there claims! They pay in a timely prompt manner and they do it way that does not make the insured feel like some sort of criminal regardless of who’s at fault. This kind of treatment is important to me and I’m willing to pay a bit more for it. Now I’m sure some of you out there have had your bad experiences with Allstate this is to be expected just like it would be for any insurance company. But again, bottom line: Shop rates, read up on carriers (there is so much information available on the net nowadays), talk with an agent, decide how much protection you need and make your decision on who you feel most comfortable with.

Take care and happy shopping!

First off I am not an insurance agent, just an old driver with a few good experiences and a few bad ones to base an answer on. The many online insurers can give you coverage, maybe for less than your local agent with a "sticks and bricks" office. But what happens when you need some face to face time for a difficult claim. I've used several insurers over the years but settled on State Farm years ago because of a difficulty with another company's poor handling of a claim. I have a house and several cars with State Farm and I'm totally happy with them. Hope this helps.

Even though I work for a competitor, USAA is about as good as you can get. They have good rates (not cheap, but remember that you get what you pay for) and perhaps most important, good service.
You will probably be OK with any of the top 3-4. Look at USAA, State Farm and Nationwide. Be careful if you are price shopping. When you call, make certain that you are comparing "coverage-to-coverage". Some agents offices will quote you minimum limits to get you a low price. Only you can determine what you need, but if you are a homeowner and say get a policy with a 20k Property damage limit and you end up responsible for totalling out a new Mercedes worth 80K, your insurance will pay the limit of 20K and you will be responsible for the remaining 60K....that's $100.00 per month for like the rest of your life :-(

I heard Allstate now will replace your car if your car is totaled in an accident. I like Geico.
Determine what you need in a policy and then go with the company that provides that even if its premiums are higher.

USAA, hands down. You have to be military or a military brat (active or retired) to get in, but once you're in, you WON'T want to leave!
