I've always thought that math was not my strong point, but I'm very interested in pursuing a career in civil engineering. I already have a college degree and am considering going back to school. Any advice? Maybe taking math at a community college first?

Here is the real truth...Yes Im a Civil Engineer and I specialize in materials engineering. I was horible in math! It was very hard I won't lie to you but if you want to do it go for it! Here would be my advice take some math before you start a program at a jr collage or some community collage first to get up to speed. Also buy the best HP calculator you can find and buy the engineering formula cards for it!

Becoming a civil engineer will be very hard if you are not good at math, but that doesn't mean you can't do it. Civil engineering is certainly less math-intensive than other disciplines of engineering, like electrical or mechanical.

However, when I say very hard, I mean very hard. Very few community colleges would offer all the math required for an accredited civil engineering degree. When you try to get licensed, you'll again face math.

What area of civil engineering are you interested in? There's lots of jobs involved, some of which might be easier for someone who isn't great at math. If being a civil engineer is what you truly want, though, you can face your struggle head-on and do it.

You can be a civil engineer if you struggled with math. The problem is getting the degree. The math classes (statistics, differential equations, calculus) might be challenging.

YES!!! I learned this from a doctor. He said he was horrible in biology,or chemistry,or whatever BUT he knew he wanted to be a doctor and accepted that he would be less than perfect in one area so he could excell overall.

that thought really helped me. So math isn't your strong point, it doesn't mean you can't achieve your goal. Good luck!
