A situation where someone unconsiously projects their bad or unfortunate experiences with someone else onto others, assuming that since they had this experience, most others must be experiencing it too. Example: A woman who's had a bad history with her husband, and automatically treats most other women's husbands as though they were jerks, wether they are or not. I know that the popular term "baggage" is sometimes used, but I'm looking for a clinical name for it.

BeachSaint: You're making a lot of unfounded assumptions here and reading a lot into this that isn't there. This is actually something that's quite common, and I've observed it on many occasions, as a disinterested third party. As to why I'm asking strangers on Answers - well, why not? LOL That's what this forum is here for - throw something out and get everyone's take on it.......

the term your looking for is "projection" but if that person is blaming other people for his bad experiences then the term "displacement" is more appropriate.

Projection is when we place our own inadequacies onto someone else.

Why do you want a clinical term from strangers on Yahoo?

Sounds to me like you are getting ready to throw some emotional blackmail her way. I think you have to ask why you are you projecting your inadequacies and insecurities back onto her.

Seems to me if you were a caring person, you would find a way to help her through what has obviously been a highly traumatic experience. You aren't a psychologist, social worker or psychiatrist -- stop the keyboard diagnosis and beging acting like a friend and wholly kind human being.

nicely it ought to in straightforward terms be that he's a style of morons who equates kindness to weak point. My dad's like that and it basically skill he's a JERK, extremely. yet whilst it is fairly obsessive and pervasive, that's a style of OCD in his case. It takes particularly some distinctive types and this could o.k. be certainly one of them.

There is no specific term that is medically used, because what that woman is experiencing is not any type of disorder, it is more like you said..."baggage." And what do people do with baggage? Drop it off in front of your doorsteps. Obviously she never healed from a painful past. She needs some releasing and a major healing.
