Matthew 7:13
Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.

Islam increases almost exclusively by birthrate. It's a religion that kills science in impoverished lands, and often seems more than a little sex-obsessed. Naturally, this will lead its followers to multiply like rabbits (whether it's from concubines, wives, or just flat out raping and pillaging). That isn't a good thing for civilized peoples, but it is how your religion converts (if you can't conquer them, outbreed them, because you can almost never convert them with words).
What this covers over are the setbacks Islam is taking. In anonymous polls, a significant number of Iranians have embraced atheism and western values. In a number of places, you can get Muslims to anonymously say they don't have much faith, but they simply are afraid to come out and say it. Many of the Muslims coming into Europe become secular and no more really Muslim than the secular Christians are Christian. Those that don't either remain silent or join the radicals. It's only a matter of time before they bomb one building too many and are banished from the Continent. In Thailand a similar process is happening. India has had it about up to their eyebrows, and the only reason Pakistan still exists is the pressure from outside powers. Islam isn't fairing too terribly well after all; people just don't want to talk about it, and it's going to pay the piper for its past as time wears on.
Christianity, however, is actually growing. In the Orient and southern Africa. A new and rather invigorated Protestantism is growing there. Now that's in the Orient, not the West, but when the West outgrows its naive multiculturalism and finds its soul again, it will also have an awakening. The Orient will maintain its current vigor. This, along with Eastern European Slavic countries could form a very aggressive and formidible Christian front that can contain Islam.
Since the conquest of Europe is not so sure a reality, Islam could find itself surrounded by its oldest enemy, and that will spell the doom of the religion. This won't happen by war, mind you, but by simple attrition. It kills science, and everywhere it has become dominent, the people are impoverished. It opposes reason and is violent, and people grow tired of violent fanaticism. No, Islam's days are numbered. The handwriting is on the wall.

I am sort of baffled by that myself. Many Christians have become disillusioned with their religion as a by product of the ugliness being shown from within it's very community. However, I would say Islam is just as corrupt and should hardly be set as the only alternative to common religion. It seems to be the "new wave" of the religious. I also think you will see it's decline coming before long as people realize what it truly is about. That is MHO anyway. Then again I am a Christian that has no particular "home" so to speak. I claim no faction as mine and do not distinguish myself as any denomination as they all seem to have something inherently wrong with them.

First of all, I question the premise - how do you know that the 'memberships' in Christian churches are decreasing? There are over a billion Catholics alone - who counts heads so often that they know that even 100,000 have dropped out? Did anyone join? Did anyone not answer the phone/survey? Who's doing the counting?
I will say this - to live the life of a Christian is not easy - those that do it can tell you that they are not superior to anyone, they are just God's children trying to do what's right. Many folks today opt for the easy way, the good life and reject formal religion. That way there are no obstructions, real or imagined, to slow them down in their pursuit of today. This is human, to be sure. Others reject this and are doing what they know is correct for them - joining and sticking with Christianity.

Because its a much more consitent religion than Christianity. Their holy book, the Koran [or however you wish to spell it] is the word of God, put to paper by one man. Compare this to the Bible, which was written by hundreds of people, and very little of which is the word of God or Jesus. Most of it reads like a history book more than anything else.
You will find, in general, that Moslems are much more together about their faith. They don't have half measures, which makes sense right? If you are going to believe in God, then do it down to the letter. Its written down for you, you just need to follow its instructions. As a consequence there are hardly any Islamic sects [Sunni, Shi'ite etc], compared to Christianity which is filled with them [Catholic, Born Again, Mormon, Evangelical, Methodist, Protestant, Anglican etc]. Islam is much more a way of life, it is something that people can grip on to and do. Pray 5 times a day. Give frequently to charity. Help your fellow Muslims. Make the Haj at least once. Compared to Christianity, there is much less room for interpretation.
People have faiths because they want to know how to live properly. Islam tells you exactly how to do this, compared to a lot of other religions which are much more wishy washy.

I really have no idea nor interest in why either increases or decreases, other than to score two points!

Common sense tells us this is untrue. How can Islam be increasing when SOME muslims are blowing themselves and their fellows muslims to pieces? this is a decrease in Islam not an increase.

Even supposing that's the case, it's six in one hand and a half dozen in the other as far as I'm concerned. One barbaric superstition for another.
