About 99% of all species to ever walk fly or crawl on earth have gone extinct, doesn't this rule out the idea of "intelligent" design?

In general, no, it does not. To say, "A Designer wouldn't design it this way" is to assume that you know what the Designer's tastes and preferences are. It also presumes that it knows the reasons why things are as they are.

Often we can't know these things when we look at something a *human* built. God is so unlike us, that we have a snowball's chance in you-know-where of accurately judging that, and frankly, there are numberless examples of baffling human design that we will never understand. I usually refrain from that except under jokes with men; I simply can't know.

For the design of the world and extinct species, here are some possibilities: Maybe He designed the universe to evolve and He helps it. Maybe the universe and man are rather fallen so this isn't the way He intended it to be. Maybe He just wants to keep redesigning it in different ways. Maybe the Designer is just cruel and like's wiping things out. Still more, perhaps the death of the organisms serves some purpose we cannot fathom.

There are numerous other possibilities as well. I subscribe to some (not all) of the preceding because of what I believe about revelation. Without that, though, I would be being very presumptuous indeed and most likely flat wrong. Let us not presume to judge what we don't understand.

Much to learn we have, my young paduwans.

Somehow we seemed to have lost the script, yet again. Who said that a debate as complex as how we all got to where we are now, could possibly be polarised into "God versus Science".

First off, I do not believe in any current religion as having the story straight. Nor in an image, a la Sistine Chapel ceiling, of some old guy, with a big bushy beard, firing off 'life' into Adam ( please note 'Adam' is merely ancient Habiru for man ) with a Sith finger bolt !

I do believe that to gain any possible understanding of how we came into being that we have to move right outside the 'envelope' of the rigid system that we have constructed out of this relative 'Universe' ( note that even the word 'universe' is a restricting factor ).

Quantum mechanics is slowly unravelling the 'magic' of the energy/matter equation that Albert Einstein started us off on. We now understand that atomic physics is still relatively crude and massive compared to the subtlety of the underlying structure. We have to go into the nature of what is the nature of the components that form atoms, which by the way, the ancient Greeks were aware of the existence of. Why ? Because, like all of us, they were also the inheritors of an immense body of knowledge, most of which they also didn't understand, despite the fabulous progress they made.

OK, to cut to the chase, the bottom line is that this realm is merely one of and infinite number of other realms ( 'science' is just beginning to 'see' that we occupy 'space' that we share with a multiplicity of 'parallel' realms, the best guess they have so far is 24 other levels, but they are getting there ).

Stuff pops in and out of this realm in what appears to be a 'magical' way, and, although it is technically 'magic', it is also 'science', when we 'get it' that particles can pop in and out of 'being' here, and at the same 'time' pop in and out of 'being' 'somewhere else', then we will be making some progress.

We are soooooo linear that we cannot see the wood for the trees, literally ! We believe that everything is soooo solid, that we cannot 'see' the 'space' that separates all matter.

We are only just beginning to understand the process of material manifestation, that it is the very act of observation that causes 'matter' to materialise out of the energy that envelopes us, energy so abundant that we could never begin to manifest sufficient to even make a measurable dent in it.

So..........if you don't believe in 'Intelligent Design', you are really making a very pronounced statement that you have no idea how the energy/matter equation works.

Similarly, if you think that one single and singular entity did all this ( and don't forget all the other infinite 'Universes' trundling along beside ours ) then you are also declaring your lack of understanding.

The ancient Egyptians knew better than we do now, apparently.

There is an incredibly intelligent ( by design ? hehehehe ) young man in the USA, California I think, who worked out that the process of our whole 'Universe' could be understood by a few lines of computer code. But, he hadn't worked out what those lines might read.

My offering is that I believe those few lines mean something like this "I wonder what would happen if I did ................. " in the dots you put anything you, or anyone else, might imagine.

In other words the whole thing is a chain of experiment, to see what might be manifested, which explains perfectly why species come into being, and then stop ( your phrase 'gone extinct' ).

We, our very own selves, are the actual source of the imagination to try all this new stuff out, and we are 'One', because we the amoeba-like clones ( at the energetic/spiritual level ) of the 'First Thought' that gave 'birth' to this realm, well actually I really mean this infinitude of Universes that I call the Omniverse, for want of a better word.

It is all governed by 'Intelligence', mostly because 'intelligence' is what drives it all, and unfortunately, for good or for bad, it is us who are the manifested representatives of 'Intelligence'.

All life has awareness, but it is us that have the 'vital' ingredient to keep the system running.

I really believe that the phrase Intelligent Design, has become a metaphor.
Because we build many wonderful things and the architects, scientist use Intelligent Design to create. That the agenda to sell Intelligent Design is merely another metaphor, like "Its Your Choice" There is no proof of Intelligent Design as for as the universe is concerned. We just simple don't know who, what, why, with what. where.&When. Someday when we'll stop looking we'll find out maybe!!

your design doesnt seem to b to intelligent.... if about 99% of all species that ever flew, walked or crawled have gone extinct then why are you still here.

Where you their?

Their is no proof in the fossil record of that. Yes many have gone extinct but not anywhere close to 99%...

Their is good proof for intelligent design.
The question may be...how can there not be a designer. The proof of his existence is all around us in the sun, sky, plants, animals and all the things around us. In this beautiful earth, which is the right size, the perfect distance from the sun, has the perfect tilt, mixture of gases to support life, and a life cycle. We see design in ourselves as humans. We have brains and a nerve center that store knowledge and memories plus it tell us when we are in pain. We have ears that we can hear just the right amount not to little so we could hear others talk and not too much we can hear air molecules passing through our ears. We have eyes to see plant and animals and all creation. We have a heart to pump blood throughout are body. We have lungs to breathe in air.
Every part of our body has a purpose and was designed perfectly. Look at a cell! How much information is in something so small. God has given us proof for his existance ...its ALL AROUND YOU!

Took the Wright brothers a few times to get their planes to work. Of course this implies God is not perfect. He may however, get bored with his work and start all over again.

For the record I don't believe in ID and I am a stoic believer in evolution, but I just like to point out flaws whereever possible.

Christ was christ before he was born. Is this not so with all animals?

animals are only extinct as far as the earth is concerned

Not when you consider the awful effect of the fall of mankind and it`s effects on nature too, perfection lost and imperfection gained.

No. Why should it. Man creates man destroys.

Afterall, God did bring the flood to wipe out the world, right!
