Richer people will eat cleaner food and bottled water and so have no immunity to diseases that are common in India.

On the other hand, a modern healthy diet will increase their life expectancy and ability to resist disease and infection.

Modern pollution often results in more respitory diseases as well, with asthma in western countries at very high levels.

The simple fact is that while modern living makes us unhealthy, modern living is associated with a range of things that make us live longer and protect us.

Generally speaking, despite the problems of modern life, the benefits far outweight the problems.

In addition, living wisely with the advantages of modern life can make us much fitter and healther than was every possible before.

I agree with the first answer. Modern living brings clean water, which can prevent dysentery and river blindness. Vaccines can prevent a lot of childhood diseases and things like hepatitis. On the other hand, modern living often means a diet higher in fat and sugar, which can lead to obesity and diabetes, as well as heart disease. It can also mean a decrease in activity, which contributes to all of these as well. I understand that in some areas in India modern medicine has lead to a large number of abortions of female babies.

Nothing in life comes without consequences, sometimes good, sometimes bad. You have to choose which is more important.
