perhaps the roots of Baul tradition is with the Great Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's Bhakthi Movement of devotional songs and chants moving around from villages to villages singing and praising the the glories of Lord Krishna. This perhaps started in Bengal and still exists there in a noteworthy way.

Later Islamic traditions also incorporated in it with a Saint who also visited the the Ka - Aaba of Makka in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Sufi traditions of Islam are also incorporated with this types of Baul Music and Songs.

The Wisdom within and behind all the scriptures are communicated to the General Public in a very simple manner by the Baul.

Perhaps there are a lot of streams in Baul Singers and most are Guru Oriented traditions and streams.
