To remove yourself from the liability of the accounts, you will have to file a police report for ID theft. Then you should send a copy of the police report and a dispute of the accounts to the credit reporting agencies and to all of the creditors for the accounts that are not yours.

If the accounts are bad, as you stated, and you fail to file a police report and the disputes, the creditors will probably go after you for payments on the accounts.

My cousin went through the same problem. If it's on your credit report more than likely it is an unpaid debt. Because it's in your name, the creditors will try to hold you liable. You can dispute those items on your credit report because they are not yours. Make sure that you order the report through annualcreditreport.com, which is a no fee service. Plus, if you are 18 or under there is also recourse because you cannot legally enter into a contract. You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission which has a credit fraud department. I have attached a couple links but you can call the 1-877-ID-THEFT (438-4338) and they will take you through your options.

if your mom opened accounts using your ssn and identity, it's identity theft. what she has done will affect you for many years to come unless you take steps now to correct it. call the places she used your id to open accounts and tell them that the accounts are fraudulent and ask to have them closed. call the credit bureaus and file identity theft claims. tell your mother you have found what she did and that you are closing the accounts. in most cases unfortunately you will have to file a police report in order to get the accounts removed from your credit. if she did not maintain the accounts with good payment histories, this will certainly have a negative effect on your credit. she may be your mother, but she does not have the legal right to steal your identity no matter what the reason.

Have you ever thought, why your Mom is doing. If intentional, just close all accounts, wait for some time. Then open a new account, with out bringing it to the knowledge of your Mom. Thus you can avoid unnecessary dispute at home.
