This is a fundemental point of the arguement smokers have with non smokers. Our rights as smokers are being erroded away so gradually that the powers that be hope we dont notice our freedoms dissappearing. As smokers can lose their freedom so can nonsmokers with various legislation. So let me say as a smoker I dont see why we should be victimised and humiliated because of our choice. I would rather my teenage daughter (if I had one) go with a smoker than a guy who wants to get what he wants no matter what. You know a lot of detectives smoke when they enter a murder scene they have to investigate because a body left for 1 or 2 weeks is putrid. Many soldiers do because when the guy you are running beside gets his head blown off, it settles your nerves in a funny kind of way. Besides if every smoker gave up in this country today , who's going to foot the bill for lost revenue, petrol will rise , alchohol, income tax and the gst to begin with. Opinions please.

All the propaganda even though most of it is good and correct has enabled the labeling of smokers as the modern lepers of today.

as a person who has smoked for 20 years i have to say that i dont believe smokers have any real legal rights example it is a right to smoke in a restaurant it is a privilege the only rights i can see is the right to chose to smoke and then as for places to smoke in your own house or car is about the only rights we should expect or on our own property why would it be a right to smoke in a public area when it is known to harm other people i know this sounds odd coming from a smoker but it is what i believe

I smoke pretty much myself, but I agree with the anti-smokers. Smoking in public places is not nice and very unhealthy for those that have chosen not to smoke.
Smoking gives a false sense that your nerves get "more stable", but scientific research shows it's the opposite. You can concentrate less after smoking.
Are you going to leave your country for the anti-public-smoking laws? Well, probably you can move to Africa, in many of those countries there's no speed limits in traffic too.

You are right, you should not be victimized and humiliated because of your choice. But, as a nonsmoker and a person with a long list of medical problems including asthma, why should I be victimized by your smoking? I don't care what peopel do in their own homes or in their cars, but I do agree that smoking should not be allowed in public areas. If you want to expose yourself to that kind of toxin, so be it, but it should not be forced on those of us who do not want it.

If smoking is part of your life already then there's nothing we, non smokers can do about it. I guess I have to agree as a teenage girl that my parents would prefer a smoker to a spoiled brat. Good point there. Smoking is not illegal but please take care of your health, though.

God bless!

I agree, how dare they take away some of our rights to slowly fatally poison those immediately around us!!!

Face it man, the only erosions of rights are occurring where one's smoking is set to affect others, and while I'm cool with my habit hurting myself, and I'm usually courteous to only smoke around people who don't care, some people are assholes and will expose others uncaringly to something that can KILL THEM.
