I have a pentium 4 processor, Windows XP, 256 MB RAM and 20 Gig hard drive. I have a fast dial-up connection. I've just had the XP installed and everything seems very slow (i.e not just this download). I'm really interested in how long on average this (or a similar) download generally takes and recommendations for how to get this download to under 5 hours. My ISP logs me out every 5 hours and for some reason, my computer is not remembering any earlier downloadings so it's back to scratch every time at the moment. I would appreciate any help anyone could provide. Thanks.

No matter how fast a dial-up connection is, it's still very slow. Imagine you are trying to fill a swimming pool by pouring water through a straw.

By the way, you might want to think twice about Office 2007. I tried it a few weeks ago and hated it. They have basically tried to re-invent the wheel and failed. The usual programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc) are not nearly as intuitive as previous versions and they contain so many features that most people won't use. I un-installed Office 2007 after a few days and went back to office 2003.

You will be better served to purchase rather than download. If you get an illegal copy, you will not be able to access updates or fixes. If you download a legitimate copy and find the need to uninstall and reinstall, you will find it a pain to accomplish. Better to buy the program with CD and product key. Then you will be good to go.

you should use a good downloading tool /software as "download accelerator plus 8.1" or "internet download manager 5.09" those are free or trialwares,
those have the facility that if your download is incomplete for some reason(as unavailibility of internet connection) then you can pause or stop it and at any time you can proceed from the point you stopped, those have fast/accelerated speeding technic by breaking the download files into seperate parts and allocating those to the quickest links and optimizing download speed and minimizing time.

first off, you need broadband or at least dsl. no matter how fast your pc is, it's going to take forever to download anything using dial-up. your pc seems like it might be able to handle it, but you may wan to upgrade your RAM to at least 512 MB so it may seem faster.
