This is a lifelong challenge for so many people. First, the person needs to be educated as to why positive attitudes are important. It may seem obvious to others who don't suffer low self-esteem, but some people just haven't been exposed to the value of confidence.
Resilience comes from experience, specifically the experience of battling low self-esteem over time. We need to learn good messages to give ourselves, and then to tell yourself you have done well, when you have given yourself a good message. It all seems pretty phony in the beginning, but with practice, and medicines if needed, you will be able to see how much it helps. Also, it helps to know that all of us want to be around positive people. It's not a rejection of those who are more negative, but the negativity pulls other people down, too. So staying positive attracts more people to us.
There are lots of good books on self-esteem worth reading. I recommend reading at least 2 or 3.

depends on what the feelings are about. There may be good reason for those feelings, if someone has wronged you, you have the negative feelings as a defense mechanism to ensure you don't get hurt again.

If you have a confidence issue, that's a different story. The best advice I can give is that you have to believe that you're the best person you can be. It may sound cocky but, really, just thinking that you are great tends to improve things alot.
