I last rode a bike 8 years ago, and would like to start riding to school again. (About 30 miles a week) If it's relevant at all, I'm 15 and weigh 110-115 pounds. Suggestions for brands, types, or models are appreciated. Thanks!

For younger people, I generally recommend mountain bikes for two reasons. First, they are more durable than road or hybrid bikes. Young riders often punish their machines more than older riders. They let friends ride them, take them to the park, ride off curbs, etc. Second, the 26" inch wheels are more maneuverable and easier to control that a hybrid's. The bikes are more agile while is an asset when commuting. I would go for a mountain bike and change the tires to "slicks" which are designed for riding on the road.

In terms of brands, I would go to your local bike shop, not the local big box store. Check out bikes from Trek, Giant, and Specialized. Good luck!
