Do antidepressants work?
You are: GEORGE Your Answer: Yes, at least the majority of them work However. there are multiple verities of this type medications on the market. No 2 people are the same, so one medication that works on one, might not work on another.
You should see a good psychiatrist and psychologist. They too differ from each other. Make sure they have the proper credentials. Ask to see their certificates.
A psychologist will listen to you and ask you different questions. You must tell them the truth or you are fooling yourself and you will succsseed in wasting everyone's time.
That is why you are seening them. To help you work on your issues. They cannot issue medical prescriptions. Only a psychiatrist can do that. They all are medical doctors and only they can prrscribe a medication that they precieve will do the most good, for you. They will ask you many questions, at first and then confer with the psychologist and compare notes.
The Dr. might try several different or a combination of meds. that they believe will help you. You have to start out with meds and you will visit the Doctor, after several days have past, to see if thy have any effect on you. If not, the Dr. will incerase or decreas your strenght of meds or may switch you to different type. This can go on for several months until you reach a stable objective. A combination of the psycholigist and the Dr. is recomeneded. The Dr. will look at your improvement and will do the meds. The pshcologist will work with you on a more personnal side or suggests group sessions with questions and suggestions .
They are well educated and know how to help you. You can always change psychologists if you are uncomfortable with yours or don't think you are progressing fast enough.
Don't ever feel self consious about your issue. Everyon has issues of some type or another, but only the smart ones realize it and seek help. You should feel good about your decision.
Goood Luck,
George

this depends on you and what your disorder is. some antidepressants that work for some people don't work for others. the one that i am on works for me and it is called lexapro. however if you are bipolar an antidepressant can put you into a mania and then a depression. in that case you would need a mood stabalizer. you want to make sure that you tell your doc everything and be honest other wise you could get on something that won't help you. it does take antidepressants at least a couple of weeks to kick in so don't expect immediate results, and if you feel as though it is not working or making you worse then tell your doc and see if he can change you to something else. hope this helps

The simple answer to your question is yes, they can work.
There are several factors that effect the benifits the person will get from taking an anti-depressant, so having a good psychiatist or even better, a psychopharmacologist (a psychiatirst who deals specifically with medications) is recommended.
It may take more than one trial of different anti-depressants to determine which one works best for the individual. Hope this helps and good luck!

For the majority of people yes . But you must take measures whilst the mind becomes uplifted to do some positive thinking and self assessment and try and change the things that have brought you to the depressive state . Sometime this is difficult changing a job marriage etc , but you know in your heart of hearts if its right for you or will it cause you furtger depressions

They definitely do, but you may have to try several to see which is the best fit for you. Many deal with brain chemistry now, and are more effective. Talk therapy is still an important part of overall depression treatment, so use both together.

Yes, it works, people with depression after taking the medication normally becomes calm. That's why they have to take it everyday.
At mental institution, patients are given these medication to calm them and they are able to work.
However, medication in the long run, sometime does not work, so they have to take more if the condition worsen.
