It is NOT illegal to use a song for a monologue or audition. When you begin, let the casting directors know "This is from...or written by.." You are not putting it in a film and it's only for personal use. I'm a filmmaker...I know the prices because I can't use music unless I have permission. But, again, you're not using it in a play or film, it's okay. :)

As long as you credit the source, it's not plagiarism, and if done for no profit, you could sing the song all you want. The technically is that if the content of the song can be shown to have helped you get a job, then you have infringed on copyright laws. Don't worry though, you're probably to small of a fish to deserve the frying.

Its no more illegal than a cover band performing a song they didn't write and playing it in the local clubs. Now if you record and sell this song/monologue, THEN you are infringing on the copy write.

You are speaking about copyright laws. As long as you don't make any money with this monologue and give credit to the writers, you'll have no problems. This is performance... cover bands do it all the time. They play other bands hit songs in clubs.

If the song is copyrighted, technically the lyrics themselves are out of reach. Unless you ask permission from the producer and/or artist, you probably can't use it without potentially being su'd.
