Try Open Office from http://download.openoffice.org/index.html

I know on a number of people who are using it, and it's hard to tell between Open Office and Microsoft Word. It has a word processor, speadsheet, presentation tool and database in it. It is Microsoft compatibility so it is able to read and write to Microsoft files. It can be used with all systems from 98 to Vista, plus Linux, Sun Solaris and Macs. And best of all it is free. Its been around for some time and most if not all the bugs are now gone, so I would say go for it.
