There are more Jehovah's Witnesses than Southern Baptists.
The independent website "Adherents.com" has this chart (abbreviated and columns switched):
http://adherents.com/adh_rb.html#interna...
Religious BodyNumber of Adherents
...
. 16,811,519 Seventh-day Adventists
. 15,597,746 Jehovah's Witnesses
. 12,275,822 ...Latter-day Saints
The webpage had a footnote on Jehovah's Witnesses:
[quote]"** Jehovah's Witnesses: This 15+ million figure is the approximate number of adherents -- intended to reflect all those who consider Jehovah's Witnesses their preferred faith, regardless of current activity status. Figure is based on reported once-a-year memorial attendance (adjusted). Actual number of publishers was 6 million worldwide in 1999. Worldwide, the number of practicing Jehovah's Witnesses may actually be higher than the number of practicing Anglicans."[unquote]
At one point do we start calling Jehovah's Witnesses a mainstream religion?
I checked two websites, and apparently there and apparently there are now more associated with Jehovah's Witnesses than with the Southern Baptist Convention!
16,383,333 Jehovah's Witnesses
16,270,315 Southern Baptist Convention
http://jw-media.org/people/statistics.ht...
http://www.lifeway.com/common/clickthru/...
Are there any published figures to compare these two religions?
This seems astounding.what do u think?

honestly, of all the Christian branches, I think that the Jehovah's witnesses are the closest to the truth. And JW's study and teach the bible and follow Christ closer than any other christian religion, and of all the Religions that I have studied, what the JW's are on to explains all the big who, what, where, when, and why's of the universe better than any other religion. I am not totally convinced yet, and am in love with my earthy and eclectic pagan ways still, but i must admit, I have a strong suspicion that they are "right".

Most people I know consider us to be part of a mainstream religion. I think when people refer to us as a cult or our beliefs as unchristian they do not know what the terms "Christian" and "Cult" mean. Then again some others are simply misinformed as to our beliefs. I have seen so many answers and questions on here that show that people either do not know what we believe or are just lying about our beliefs. Religion is a hot button issue. Those who are actually willing to listen to us( and not just believe rumors, lies, misinformation, and misunderstood info) I think probably consider us mainstream. Those who do not wish to see us for what we are (people striving to serve Jehovah and follow the principles in the Bible) may never be willing to see us as mainstream.

I am not at all familiar with the statistics but I can't say I would be surprised. I think many people today are fed up with others who claim to be Christians but do not put their life where their mouth is...more or less. Perhaps the attraction to some is the dedicated work these people do. How many of us will put ourselves on the line every day for a couple of years and let doors be slammed in our face? Although I do not agree with their teachings or beliefs, I do give them credit for being willing to stand up for what they believe.

16 mil in a world of over 6 bil
how many catholics, muslims, hindus, buddhists are there? probably tons more than 16 mil each...
but then Jesus said there are many false christians and "few are the ones finding the narrow road to life" so it would have to be one of the smaller orgs that are the true "one flock" eh? please read Matthew 7:13-23

Matthew 7:13-15.
A person must be very careful who he or she follows.
Large numbers of adherents to a "religion" only means they are most likely not following Jesus' instructions.

Did you know that JESUS said in Matthew 7:13
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
Numbers do not impress me. What impresses me is how many have a right RELATIONSHIP with GOD...not how much knowledge they may have gained. There is only one way to have this relationship...see the link below.
SirLok...interesting observation...although the 144,000 is the heavenly class and the rest live on Earth which contradicts Jesus saying there will be ONE flock and ONE shepherd.
Another observation regarding the 144,000. The Watchtower accuses "Christendom" of having a hierarchy ...that they have a clergy and the average membership and they condemn Christendom for this. Yet, they have this very special class that is going to heaven while the rest have to live on Earth.
Better yet...once a year everyone is instructed to attend a meal in the honor of the 144,000 but they are told...DO NOT EAT!
Imagine being invited to supper and then told....You can only WATCH us eat...this is NOT for YOU!
My GOD...said ANYONE can dine...and ALL can come to ME just as you are....and I will give you rest.
No my friend. I have attended hundreds of WT meetings...and they have NOTHING to offer. I will take MY JESUS...any day!
Poohcat1 The question to ask...is WHY are they so dedicated? According to the WT. there are several requirements to be "eligible" for eternal life. They all focus on works such as being a member of "Jehovah's organization in GOOD STANDING" and to attend meetings and being a publisher...or knocking on doors.
My question regarding this is how many meetings do you need to attend or how many doors do you need to knock on to get eternal life? Also please note that if you do all of these things...you are only...eligible to have eternal life. I can be eligible for a promotion and never get it. Remember also...that in the days Jesus walked the Earth...the Pharisees were "Jehovah's organization" of HIS day.
As a pastor, I have always advised that if ANY church or religion tells you that you have to be a member of their group to be saved...RUN from it.
The jailer asked...what must I do to be saved... the answer he got...believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved. I will stick to the BIBLE!

did you know that the Lord said my flock is a small one.
And he also said the straight way is a narrow way few there be that go therein, but the road that leads to destruction is wide and many there be that find it.
