Therefore you cannot view his claims to being Catholic or any type of Christian in Mein Kampt as sincere.

Automatic excommunication happens when Catholics commit certain offensives. This happens as soon as the offense is committed.

Adolf Hitler committed the following offenses resulting in automatic excommunication:
- Apostasy - the formal renunciation of one's religion. Hitler specifically rejected the Catholic Church, as well as Christianity in general. He described himself as "a complete pagan.”
- Heresy - a doctrine in theology, religion, philosophy, or politics at variance with those of the Catholic Church. Nazism is definitely heretical to Christianity.

With love in Christ.

Surely, Shirley, a person who claims to be a Christian is confessing that they are. Is not a Christian one who confesses that they follow Christ?

While Hitler did many bad things, claiming to be a Christian, so do many Christians. Chrstians killed Pagans, Muslims, each other, Witches, presumed Witches, Native Americans and many others throughout history. Hitler had a leg to stand on as he was killing Jews, and many Christians at the time believed Jews responsible for killing Christ, and thus looked with favor on their destruction.

There are many Christians today who view Jews with disdain. There are many Christians who would look with favor on the destruction of Islam. There are Christians who dance upon the graves of homosexuals and deceased soldiers returning from iraq.

Please don't simply try to discount those who did bad things but called themselves Christians until you can effectively rid the churches of those who hold similar ideas today. They have been, and are now a part of Christian churches.

The Third Reich is just another branch of the demonic spirit of Imperial Rome. The devil is a liar and will say anything he wants. Was Hitler a liar when he was in power or when he wrote Mien Kampf? Or was he just a consistent liar from beginning to end like his spiritual daddy?

The Christian religion is just as full of demons as Islam or any other religion. The devil is a religious spirit, a seeker of worship and of power. Anything in Christianity, apart from contact with Christ Jesus, is at best the busy work of men and more often a roost for the devil.

I understand where you are going with your question; but before you can ever separate Hitler from Christianity you must first separate Christianity from true religion.

Do you still believe that fairytale that Hitler wrote Mein Kampf?

Superior General Wlodimir Ledochowski of the Jesuit Order instructed Father Bernhardt Staempfle S.J. to write Mein Kampf (“My Struggle”), to brief Hitler on its contents, attribute him to its authorship and ensure its mass publication.

Archbishop Pacelli (later Pope Pius XII) , stationed in Munich did personally fund with Vatican gold and organize the re-structuring of the Nazi Party.

The Catholic Right made a deal on the relase of Hitler and helped the Nazi's win power.

See: The Almanac of Evil for all the sordid details

In other words, if it wasn't for the Vatican, the Catholic Church, Hitler would never had gained power, there would never have been any SS, and Hitler probably would never have even been elected leader of the Nazi Party!

So I think arguments about Hitler being or not being a Catholic are a giant red herring in the face of overwhelming facts.

The lack of any formal statement by the Vatican on the excommunication of Hitler speaks volumes about their opinion of him.

EDIT:
I would like to amend my previous statement given the important and key facts provided by Iamacatholic- arguably the most successful answerer in the history of Yahoo Answerers and himself- a powerful force in R&S.

He is indeed correct in stating the provisions of excommunication as an automatic process- therefore, it could be argued on one hand that Hitler has already, by his actions been excommunicated by the Catholic Church. My argument, revolves around the lack of formal notice concerning this fact/process.

I commend iamacatholic for a well considered answer and thank him for his correction.

Hitler was not a Catholic. I would say he was an atheist. My mother lived through that hell. She said that he had everything religious removed from the schools [ she went to a catholic school] they were not allowed to teach religion at all.

Well if he was then he did not discriminate those he persecuted. Aside from Jews, he caused the death of opposers, the mentally handicapped, the Catholic Priesthood who opposed him, Gypsies, Jehova's Witnesses.

one thing is for sure:
1. he mass murdered countless innocent people
2. he was heartless coward who gave orders but lived off the fat of the land
3. he never "knew" God or he would have never done those horrific acts.
4. like many "false confessions" he was not a Catholic or Christan.
5. actions speak louder them words.
