Are you in elementary school? (Honest question.) Beyond elementary school, I've never heard anyone use the term "language arts."

I believe it's essential. Strong communication skills reflect positively on you within every social context. Too many people in this country know how to speak, read and write on a basic level. If you go beyond that basic sixth-grade level (the reading level at which most national newspapers present information; unfortunately, fewer and fewer people today are reading the papers), you will be able to process more complex ideas in many areas, including both the "soft" (literature, art, philosophy, cultural theory, etc.) and "hard" sciences (mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, etc).

It's my belief, too, that at the very least, you'll find life richer if you take the time to delve more deeply into your language.

The way in which you ask the question speaks volumes. Your address shows your need for further refinement and that is precisely the purpose of language arts. Speaking eloquently when called upon to do so- such as a job interview or in a TV report is a valuable skill, and you never know who is listening. speaking in an ill mannered uneducated way is a sure way to prevent your own progress.

Language Arts is a Useless degree. My wife has a language Arts degree, and there is almost no jobs out there that require such a degree.

Science degrees is where the money is.
Arts Degrees are just for fun.
