Mormonism is a moneymaking scheme, just like any surviving religion today. They're just a little more "up-front" about it.

I think you may have heard incorrectly. The main thrust of the church now is in Latin America, as an adjunct to convert the 'Lamanite' populace. These are mostly poor and destitute peoples, and the church appears to promise some relief, and actually does.
The church expects, but does not demand a 10% of one's income, but this is a personal choice - they don't send an 'enforcer' to make anyone pay up.
As far as signing one's will over the the church, that too is a personal direction. Mrs Ray Croc (McDonalds heiress) gave a large chunk of her estate to National Public Radio.

Wow this one is even funnier than the one i heard about not being able to eat pizza. Both are very false. There is nothing even close to it that could have been misinterpreted. As far a comments to tithes, no one is forced to give anything, however God has always required a tithe throughout the bible(ie: sacrafice of the lambs, crops, etc.) so why would this not apply to us today...are we above Gods commandments? Again this is not forced, but is a choice that most of us follow because we believe it is what God desires of us. And unlike many churches where their pastors are rolling in the dough payed by their congregation, EVERY single person in the ENTIRE organization of the church is volunteer. Not a single penny is given to anyone including the Prophet. The money goes to building church buildings, temples, food wharehouses that feed those that are needy(and not just members) disaster relief, (including huge ammounts to katrina and the tsunami relief) missionary funds, and many more charitable donations all over the world. If you asked me I got no problem giving a measley 10% to causes like this.

I've never heard that before and I'm about to leave to be a missionary. I go tracting with the missionaries and never once have they said anything about this.
We spread the gospel because we know it's true and it brings us happiness...we want to share that.
If the Mormon church were all about money... why would they
1. Have no paid clergy?
2. Give so much to charity?
3. Spend so much money on scriptures, hymnals etc.?
4. Spen so much to help out at disasters?
Just a few examples.
Hope that helps. Have great day! :)

That's odd. I've talked with a lot of Mormon missionaries at length. They of course were interested in my conversion. Why esle would they put their lives on hold to go door to door sharing their faith? But nobody has ever mentioned money, wills, any of that. I know active and "apostate" Mormons and have never heard a word of this. I suspect this is mythical and probably one of the many needless slanders fomented toward the LDS, against which there are more than sufficient objections without making up false ones.

Well, look at it this way.
The Church has changed my life for the better and I have never been happier in my life. It taught me to appreciate life and that I was loved by God, which was something I never felt before. And after I felt this change I just wanted to scream it to the world because I have never felt anything like it.
Even more so, when I looked at the people around me I naturally want to share it with them, so they can feel the joy that I have felt.

We actually spread the gospel, because we believe it is true. We send a lot of missionaries to third world countries. We really do not seek out the rich nor Asians in particular. Interview any member of the LDS church and find out if they have gotten rich. It is not a money making scheme. Please research all of the aid that the LDS church donates and you will udnerstand that it is not a scheme to get rich. No one gets rich from the church. We teach because it is true.

Money, that's what I want. Yeah, yeah...there's a big Mormon church near where I live and they have a giant bugling boy atop a big pole all made from shiny brass. That's where the money goes. And remember, this religion originated in the states, the home of capitalism.

I actually laughed when I heard this one. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon) and this is pure hogwash. I laughed because the lies you hear about the church are insane but this one takes the cake. Rest assured, there is not truth to this whatsoever. You can visit the website www.lds.org for basic beliefs on the church. Please go there instead of listening to your friend as they are not giving your correct info. (I still have a smile on my face)

I haven't heard about signing a will but they demand 10% tithing from everyone and then won't tell you what they do with the money. I am a christians now and I don't have to give the 10%, the church leaves that up to God to tell me,and my church tells me where the money goes.
