Have you noticed that other plants are green as well? Yes, the science says it's because the chlorophyll is green, but what do they know?
In reality, the grass is green because the phrase "The grass is greener on the other side" would not sound right, if if was another color.
Try "the grass is more purple on the other side." Sounds silly, doesn't it? This is the real reason.

The dominant pigment in grass is chlorophyll. Chlorophyll absorbs light in the red and blue sections of the spectrum, and reflects green light. Human eyes take in the reflected light- in this case green- and see a green plant.
Interestingly, chlorophyll reflects infrared much more than green, so if the human eye could detect infrared, grass would be that colour and not green.

The chlorophyll in the chloroplasts of the plant cells is a pigment that reflects the wavelengths of light we call green. So grass appears green to us. The other wavelengths are either transmitted or absorbed, but green is reflected and our eyes perceive it.

the chorophyl in the tissue is green, it is what photosynthesizes, thus creating sugar. Green light has the lowest wavelength in the spectrum and thus the least amount of energy to absorb. The rest of the colors of the spectrum are absorbed by the plant to have the highest possible efficincy in making sugars for the plant.

The color you see in any object is a result of reflected light. The blade of grass is absorbing all the other colors in the light spectrum and reflects the green.
That is the scientific explanation.

It is only green in our colour spectrum. Birds for instance may see grass in a different way.

In Science class you learn that it's a reflection the sun creates. like the rainbow, it has many colors. the sky is blue. that's why when sunlight hits glass or diamonds, you see the colors of the rainbow. it's the way the sun reflects off of it.
