So my friends computer is messed up and I need to make a Windows XP boot disk. We could have just reinstalled XP, but he can't find any discs, and he has another computer that has XP on it. There is also one more problem. He doesnt have a floppy drive, so is there a way to burn one to a cd? Thank you.

Regarding Leila's answer, I saw a box of the XP upgrade in Wal-Mart just the other day, but one would also need an acceptable version of Windows to install it (I include the word "acceptable" because I'm not sure whether Windows 3.1 or 95 would be sufficient).

If it helps, I don't think it would be necessary to actually have Win98 or whatever on the hard drive; one may be able simply to insert the CD of the previous version when the installation program requires it for verification (a "clean install").

The actual Windows XP disc works as a boot disc, it's different to ME, 98, and 95. So for your boot disc, just put the XP disc in, restart the computer and providing the BIOS is set to boot from CDROM it will boot from that disc. No floppy disks needed! :o)

i use to be a software supervisor and i get that question a lot since the new windows vista is in store you can not find windows xp anywhere except for the Microsoft website which is Microsoft.com or it is easier to call them 1-800-MICROSOFT. You will have to play a little fee but that wont be a problem or if you don't feel like dealing with your friend's computer you can take it to your nearest electronic store and let them fix it for a little fee they will give you a disc and you can buy a burner at your nearest electronic store too

Do a search of the Windows site. I think you can dl what you're looking for. The only benefit over other sites is that it should be completely free of crapware.
By the way a7xrocks, careful what you offer in an open forum. Sending someone a copy of Nero is illegal!!! You never know who's watching ;)

i think of you have purely burnt the image to CD ROM, particularly of becoming a CD from the image. acquire and deploy Alcohol and open the CD photograph up, then burn it to CD. determine you placed your BIOS as nicely from CD ROM too.
