"true one". What gives you the right to say this? Jesus never said that on "this rock I'll build my (fill in the blank) church. He said on this rock, I'll build my church. So what's up?

Exo: I'm Baptist and we don't claim to be the "only true" church.

If you spend enough time on this page you will see people who always add "the true church" and 99.99% of the time, they are of the above mentioned denominations. So I was curious why?

True!
I am a simple Christian.
Jesus is coming for His Bride - The Church.
That Church will consist of those who are spotless and pure before Him.
Not of any specific denomination or 'religion'.
So to put it simply, they are wrong!

While the three you mention claim to be the true church, the truth is that ALL of the churches are descended from Catholicism in some sense.

The Catholics make the claim that Peter was the first church. Christ gave him the name Peter, which means rock, and then said he would build his church on that rock. The Catholics say that Peter was the rock on which the church was built, and thus was the first Pope.

Protestants who claim to dispute the Catholic idea point to Petra and Petros as different words, thus concluding that Christ gave peter the name rock, but founded the church on another rock. The problem with this is that one is masculine, and the other feminine, and the peculiarities of the language wouldn't permit the use of a single word for both uses. There would have been no way for Christ to use a single word such as Petros in both places in that sentence.

In any case, all Christians believe Christianity to be the only true Church. While it may be multiple denominations, orthodox Christianity believes itself to be the only way.

Too, one might note that Catholics do not claim that protestants will be by any measure damned, while the fundamentalist Christians will claim that all three groups you mentioned are false churches and their adherents doomed to hell.

I challenge you to find any fundamentalist Christians who would claim that the Christian church, especially fundamentalist ones are not true. That's the whole point in "Bible only" churches. They believe themselves to be the true church of Christ.

We all have the right to claim whatever we want. You could claim yours is the only true one. But why I feel that my church is true is because truth doesn't change. All hell could break lose around it, and truth stands firm. It doesn't bend the rules to make it more appealing to the masses, it doesn't give in to peer pressure and social changes. Truth is the same today as always. In my opinion catholics and mormons are the only religion who has been the same from the beggining. Not reforming to the ways of the world to me is a sign of truth. And personally if you don't feel so strongly about your beliefs that you felt without a shadow of a doubt that it was true, then what is it missing? It's not a way to be arrogant and say we are better than you, it's just that we have a personal testimony of it's truthfulness that we simply cannot deny it. If you felt so strongly about something, even if it was just about the shampoo you use, i would under no circumstance expect you to deny that. And quite frankly would lose respect for anyone who would deny what they really feel.

thank you! there are a very good kind of differences in faith, and a few human beings think of that considering one person beleives something diverse than their beleifs, they have the stunning to bash them and tell them that they are taking place to heck (tee hee). people who inspire myths approximately different religions (i've got observed that A TON with Mormons) are kinda being hypocritical. very almost all religions that i understand of inspire being superb to others, no remember if this is Christian, Islam, Hindu, or a bajillion others. human beings interior those sects misunderstand their very own beleifs or something and do something diverse. i've got in no way had a difficulty with the different beleifs in any respect. If I also have a difficulty with a Muslim, I blame the guy, no longer the religion. yet others fall faraway from religions whilst there is issues of someone. it incredibly is the place we get hateful myths approximately mormons, JWs, and catholics (incredibly, i did no longer think of catholics had that plenty hatred to them) and how they are no longer christian and stuff. there have been a very good kind of excellent factors interior the solutions i've got seen. besides, rant over.

You are using the word church instead of denomination which makes it a little confusing. There is a lot of misinformation in some of these answers. I agree with some who say run away from any group that says they are the true church(denomination). Everyone I am aware of that has this idea seems cultish although I don't think Catholics are, even though we protestants don't agree with a lot of what they teach. One person on here did not identify his denomination which is the Church of Christ ,which is another that thinks they are the true church. Seventh Day Adventist the same. there are many.

Yes, Christ has only ONE church, and it was not designed to be broken up into denominations.

One LDS apologist said that it should be "We believe we are the RESTORED church of Christ" rather than the "true church". When you say "true church" (and I had a problem with this when I first investigated the church) people assume that you mean "and everyone else is gonna burn in hell".

Oh, and when you said "Exo: I'm Baptist and we don't claim to be the "only true" church." you obviously aren't Southern Baptist, cause I heard them a LOT when I was growing up "If you don't belong to our church, you're gonna burn in hell!"

This is one Catholic who has never made any such claim -- if for no other reason than my church doesn't make that claim, either. We recognize that there is only one means of salvation through the atoning death of Christ, and anyone who accepts Him as their Savior is our brother or sister in the Lord.

And a few years ago, I went to church with my Baptist sister. We attended her Sunday school class, and I got to sit through an hour of someone telling us that Catholics weren't saved and what all we allegedly believed. The teacher had no idea of what church I belonged to. . .this was apparently just par for the course with this church. She couldn't have been more wrong about what she was saying, but the rest of the class acted as if she was telling the absolute truth.

For my sister's sake, I kept my mouth shut and didn't tell the woman that I was Catholic. But I know from experience what it's like to be rejected by those who claim to be loving Christians and yet badmouth their fellow believers.

First notice that Jesus said "my Church". He did NOT say "my Churches" or "my denominations". This means that only one Church would be the one that is His true Church.

His Church is the one that He commissioned to go and to preach to all nations. The Catholic Church accomplished this mission early in Church history when being Christian meant belonging to the Catholic Church no matter what country you were in. And, to this day, the Catholic Church is in every civilized nation in the world with all having the Pope in Rome as our sign of unity.

The Catholic Church has 2,000 years of unbroken well documented history going back to Jesus and the apostles.

Jesus gave all of His authority to the Church with Peter as the chief shepherd of the Church on earth. The Pope in Rome is the successor to Peter since Peter became the first Bishop of Rome and died in Rome.

The fact that the Bible was put together by the Catholic Church.

The Catholic Answers website explains it very well:

This is another helpful link to see the history of different Christian sects:

How Old Is Your Church?

And this link shows the Chronology of the Church from the beginning in 30AD to 1978:

Edit: Why do you ask this question if you are not interested in learning why we believe that our Church is the only one founded by Jesus? I think you just wasted my time and energy. Thanks a lot. Have a nice day.

Catholics and Mormons are the only two who(historically) can.

Catholics have been around since a little after the death of all the Apostles, but they were widely recognised to have apostatised. That's why there are so many Christian sects... most of them broke off from the Catholic church.

The Mormons say(and many others) there was a Great Apostasy and reformation couldn't cut it. There had to be a restoration. The only church that even has a slightly plausible claim to restoration is the LDS church.

No one else(historically speaking has any right to claim being Christ's church.

hope that helps... have a great night! :)

Well I see most people on here saying that, or at the vary least saying, that so and so is NOT the correct faith. Clearly if someone believes a certain faith, and that faith is clearly monotheistic, wouldn't they feel it was correct??? Consider, would an Atheist say that people who believe in God are correct???

There is only one Church that is set up the exact same way Christ set up his church which consisted of prophets, apostles, priests, high priests etc. And because Christ's church was a chruch that received constant revelation, it was a divinely guided church. The only chruch that is set up this way and that makes this claim is the Chruch of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. No other chruch claims to have a prophet, 12 apostles and continues to receive revelations from the Heavens.
