Iran currently has no WMDs. They are however attempting to secure nuclear power plants which could offer the potential (keyword, POTENTIAL) for possession of nuclear weapons. Whether Iran really wants the plants for power or for uranium enrichment is very tricky to determine, but the fact that they have so far refused to have conditions placed upon their ownership of nuclear power would tend to indicate they are pursuing a nuclear weapons strategy.

Iran never had WMD's. In the Iran-Iraq War 1980-1988, Iraq used chemical weapons on Iranian troops. This fact is made known to the world because Iran lodged a formal complaint to the United Nations at the time. There were no known Iranian attacks on Iraqi troops using chemical weapons.

Also, Iran had never had any row with the United Nations about WMD's. So, it is clear that Iran never had them.

Iran however, is pursuing Uranium enrichment. Whether this is for peaceful purposes or for nuclear weapons development is up for the IAEA to decide.

Although Iran is an oil-rich nation, it doesn't have the facilities to refine oil. It can export raw crude oil, but had to rely totally on the importation of refined oil products like petroleum and gasoline for its domestic industries and power generating plants. Thus their desire to use nuclear energy for power generation (peaceful purposes) is justified.

I highly doubt it. They need more energy diversification across Iran. In Iran, most energy is provided through petro-chemicals in Tehran.. or through Hydro in other areas. The thought it, nuclear energy will cheapen prices in other areas dependant on other sources from far away.

The current administration in Iran probably wants Nuclear defense. I wouldn't worry if Iran did have a nuke though, because like everyone else... they're not stupid enough to actually use it.

Don't know, but tend to doubt it. Saddam used gas/WMD against Iran in their war, and I don't think Iran retaliated. Not sure if it's because they weren't as depraved or simply that they had none.

If they don't they will soon. They got the know how from Pakistan and no one will stop them. The EU just cries at them while the Omans laugh.
