My dog follows my mom around the house and even sleeps with her. I know he has seperation anxiety. When she leaves the house he's cool about it. He doesn't make a fuss. But when she returns he becomes so excited and uncontrolable, constantly barking. I'm the only one in my house that feels like it's not nornal for the dog to do that. Am I crazy or is the dog crazy or is it my mom? please tell me.

not seperation anxiety....he loves your mom and has not been trained to not behave in this manner when she returns...he can be trained to control this behaviour...in seperation anxiety, there is little that training can accomplish...and the damage is done when the person the dog is attatched to is gone...thus the term SEPERATION ANXIETY. when that person is gone, the dog becomes very destructive and also messes on the floor, to name a few symptoms.

Why is this an issue? What do you mean, "What do I do?" Do nothing! If the dog had separation anxiety, he'd be howling, crying, barking and destroying the house while she's gone. He loves your mom, so he follows her around, and is happy when she returns from being gone. I guess I don't understand why it's a problem, or why you want to do something about nothing. Sorry, I don't get it....my 4 cocker spaniels sleep with me....where else are they supposed to sleep? haha

Your dogs might basically have had a reliable adventure with an older lady. If she's a rescue perchance the female who took her positioned of a bad problem became comparable on your mom. Coukd basically be your mom snuck him some good treats one time and he hasn't forgotten. ;)

It is normal. You are crazy. Nothing you can do about it. Try to play with the dog, feed it, give it treats or take it for a walk. Show him you love him too.

OK, here's how you get the dog to love you: feed him. Take him for walks. Play nicely with him. Give him snacks. Brush him.

I'm betting your mom is doing most of these things, so of course he loves her! It'll take some time to transfer the dog's affections, but if you are kind and consistently take care of the dog, then it will happen.

Your mom is probably the one that feeds her, right? My dog is the same way. She's at my feet right now. Dogs are so loyal, I wish people were more like them! I don't think either your mom or your dog are crazy!

Opray had an episode on dogs. It was really good.
To keep the dog from going crazy when she get's home; she needs to turn her back to him/her. Once he doesn't get attention and learns to sit, she is to turn around and give him a treat. After various times, he will learn that he will get postivi\e reinforcement if he sits next to her when she comes home.

The barking stops if she uses a spray bottle everytime he barks. He will stop after awhile of realizing when he barks he gets a squirt.

You did not say whether or not your mom lets your dog get away with lots of things. Your dog could be dominating her!
She could now be his possession Which she should be turning around.
If not the case then don't worry about it the dog just loves being with her.. lol

Dear,
If you dont want the dog(male) to follow your mom, i would sugest hat you find the dog a female (dog) partner.
you can do this by taking him out when your mom is not around the hse, if there are any female dogs in neighbourhood you are lucky. Wish you good luck.
