in them. Really big craters. Am I too old to have them taken out? I haven't had tonsilitis in a few years. Could they be the cause of my bad breath? I brush and floss. I always have a white film on my tongue. Even a tongue cleaner doesn't help. If I don't constantly chew gum, my breath is awful.

SO WHAT TO DO ABOUT THOSE SMELLY TONSIL STONES?
HARD + EXPENSIVE + PAINFUL= TONSILLECTOMY. AKA CUT THEM OUT.
SIMPLE + CHEAP + PAINLESS= IRRIGATION WITH WATERPICK,
THE TONSILS ARE VALUABLE LYMPHATIC GLANDS SERVING YOUR THROAT FROM GETTING SEVERE INFECTIONS. THEY ARE NO LONGER SIMPLY REMOVED AS A COMMON SURGICAL PROCEDURE IN YEARS PAST.

From the symptoms you described you most likely have a form of tonsilitis called Cryptic Tonsilits. This is when deep "crypts" , pits or as you say craters form in the tonsils. When you eat, food particles can becomed trapped in these pits or craters which decay and form puss filled lumps called tonsilloliths. This is what causes the foul smelling breath. As with any tonsil infection it is best to see a Otolaryngologist especially if you are experiencing any tonsillar swelling or pain. He/She will examine your throat and decide what the best treatment should be .

Know the asteroid wellhead tonsil stones them for many years and it's been title not eventually.

Best decision I've ever made! I was shocked by the way of getting out the stones out. It was so easy, but more importantly, painless. I really liked the little trick he had for preventing gag reflex. He have one happy customer here.

The appearance of your tonsils is normal. There's no need to remove them unless you have frequent sore throats or tonsilitis.

As for the bad breath, that is something to talk to your doctor about or your dentist. I have tonsils just as you describe and my breath does not stink.

Try scraping your tonsils with a spatula (worse comes to worse use your finger and push on your tonsils), there may be "stones" in there. They stink really bad!!! I have HUGE tonsils too, and once in a while my breath will be horrible, brushing, gargelling, gum won't help. But once I get the white "stones" out of there, no more. But after you do that gargel with an antiseptic mouth wash.

Any infection of the tonsils needs to be assessed by a physician.

Sounds like the crypts of your tonsils are being filled with some sort of puss or bacteria.

You could have them removed. The surgery is not taxing, but it is not fun. Unless they have been the subject of frequent infection, there is no obvious reason to remove them, but this is definitely grounds to consult with a physician.
