I have a problem with ear mites too. I find olive oil works very well. Just a couple of drops. I've also used mite rememdies from the pet store. But they HATE them! They even see the bottle they are gone! It's hard to put drops in their ears! I also use Revolution from the vet (but you can only get it here if the vet has seen your cat in the last year). It is for fleas, earmites, and worms. You put it on their back. It doesn't work real good on fleas though. I heard Advantage has a new product that is the all in one also that I am going to try.
Here is a good vet webite that has good articles on ear mites. You might want to read them.

It could be fleas, mites, an ear infection or allergies, in that order of likelihood. They can all by caught from other animals, or from the environment, even if she is an indoor-only cat.
Take the cat to the vet to find out what the cause of her itchy ear is, then the vet can tell you what treatment to use. Revolution spot-on treats fleas, tapeworms and ear mites - but find out from the vet if it is one of these first!

Cats often get ear mites from their mothers when they are small. There is a medication now at the vets that gets rid of the mites and their eggs with one treatment. She should be seen by the vet anyway in case she has somehow gotten an infection instead.

I don't know how they get them, but my indoor cats got them. The best way to handle it is get revolution for fleas and treat your cat with it. You have to treat her twice to get rid of mites. That crap they give you to put in their ears doesn't always work. I have 11 cats and they kept re-infecting each other, until I changed vets and they said, I don't know why they even gave you miteacide to get rid of them, you should be using Revolution. I used it for two months and mites are gone. It has been a year not. Also, scoop-able litter causes dirt to build up in ears. I clean my kitties ears all of the time to remove buildup. They will come to me and hold their ear down to tell me it is time to clean. If you are not sure if it is mites, the vet can tell you in about 2 minutes.

Instead of buying expensive drops for her ears mix 1part water to 1 part mouth wash and add a little bit of hair conditioner and mix it well. clean her ears out 2-3 times daily with a q-tip (be VERY careful) until the mites are gone. if you do not take care of the mites your kitty cat could be def.

Ear mites are spread from other animals. Take her to the vet and get her checked for an ear infection.

If the ear is red and swollen, black inside, that means she has ear mites. Some cats just randomly get things.

Sounds like ear mites,, it is brown or blackness spots, also they will scratch their ears. If it gets real bad they will start shaking their heads, better have the kitty checked. Than to wait until it gets real bad. because it really bothers the cat.

1 call your vet & take her in he'll probably give her something like advantage & some drops to put in her ears & instructions.
2. How? You can actually track mites, fleas & ticks in if you walk across your grass instead of using the sidewalk.
