I Have been smoking marijuana recreationally for about 5 years now. I smoked lightly when i first started 5 years ago, then just stopped. About 3 years ago i smoked again and for the next 2 years i smoked probably 4 times. Then everything changed. About 1 year ago and started hanging out with a new group of friends and started smoking constantly. It was a gradual increase. At first i was doing it once every two or three weeks, then once a week, then three times a week so on and so forth until i found myself smoking everyday two three even four times a day. I wasn't even having fun anymore when i got high yet i still found myself constantly doing it. So i quit for about a month. I smoked a few times after that one month and i have been constantly taking breaks from smoking but for some reason i always find myself coming back to it. I think in my head i will not smoke today but when someone offers it to me its almost impossible to say no.

The irony of this entire situation is how the day i tried LSD aka Acid was the day that i realized that i was completely addicted to marijuana. Somehow the acid allowed me to see through the addiction

i doubt that your really "addicted" to marijuana. you're just pretty much chasing the high...even though the high isn't there anymore. your brain is telling you just smoke more and more, and the euphoria will come back. i would advise just getting some help. also, i would advise changing groups of friends again. sorry to say, but your current friends are just getting you into trouble...

Having been down that road with prescription pain killers, I would say you are definitely psychologically addicted.

The same amount you first used doesn't have the same effect any more, so you smoke more. The fact that you can't turn it down is a definite sign of dependence. Someone who was not dependent on it could easily say, "no."

Here's the problem though: you WILL eventually be offered something stronger, such as narcotic pain relievers of even heroin. You are a "downer" person. You probably can't stand uppers because they make you jittery.

Having "been there, done that," I would really recommend you get some help with quitting. But only YOU can make that decision. Sometimes people have to become really physically addicted to something before they get so sick of it that they want to quit. You could join a NA group (narcotics anonymous.) Everyone there will tell you that they started out in exactly the same way. "I never intended to start shooting horse, but........"

Maybe there will be someone there who can inspire you.

Good luck.

Even though marijuana is not addictive but it can surely cause addiction if its not taken care of as soon as possible. I suggest that you seek a drug rehab or get some information on how to make and follow a self in-patient rehab program and plan. Its good to hear that you are able to quit it for some time but it doesn't really make difference if you start using it again regularly. You should slowly cut down on the usage and while doing so seek some professional drug rehab help and take some drug detox.

First of all, it sounds like you need to change friends and get away from their influence.

You may have a psychological addition to the wacky weed for now.

Persistent use of any drugs such as weed, coke, etc, will cause the brain do decrease its natural production of endorphins (the good chemicals that make you feel good). There will be a time, if the use of bad drugs continues, that the brain will no longer produce these chemicals and you will be chemically addicted to continue feeling good. This is why it is so hard for drug users to shake the drug habit once the brain's ability to produce endorphins is permanently destroyed.

Now ask yourself if its worth it or not.

Find new friends, because real friends wont see you suffer. I used to smoke trees gave up and don't miss it, now I got a good job my brain works faster and I got a woman who is supporting me in my sobriety, I have 16 months clean and sober. Yes you can be addicted to marijuana,
and to the lifestyle it brings there is no justification for what weed smoking brings.

You should check yourself into rehab. Many start out with marihuana then go on to stronger drugs. Quit now while you can and it is easy to do. Don't ever think that "it won't happen to you". Seek help and support from people you know love you and quit hanging around the wrong crowd. Try to find meaninful things to do. It seems you have too much free time. Pick up a hobby, new career, school anything to keep you busy and out of trouble. God bless

Yes I think you are addicted to marijuana if you need to smoke constant and are getting lazy and find that your days are just flying by with out you doing anything at all then yes but don't worry if you want to stop you can just take one day at a time

no.. you are definitely not addicted. marijuana, in general, is not an addictive substance. and if you can quit and come back to it easily, then you are clearly not addicted. people who are addicted are people who can't stop doing it. marijuana has seem to be like someone offering you a drink.. if people are doing it and offering it to you, you'd just say ok. if not, then you wouldn't feel the strong desire to do so either cuz you can just stop for weeks at a time.

If you find yourself asking that question, the answer is probably yes. One of the most difficult things to do, though, is to quit when all your friends smoke. One of my closest friends lost quite a few of his friends when he quit, because everything his friends did involved weed, and he couldn't find himself around it without smoking with them. If you would like to really, truly, quit, removing the temptation is the best way to go. Let the people you socialize with understand that you have quit, and to respect you like they would someone who didn't ever smoke. If they are real friends, they will respect your desicion. Good luck to you.
