I don't have Caucasian hair, so I can't really do the everyday thing because it takes 10yrs to straighten my hair (unlike Caucasian hair who can get their hair straight in one stroke of the flat iron, mine takes about 20 strokes). So how often should I wash it? I used to wash it everytime I went to the salon (every 2-4 weeks), but now I'm finding out that that isn't a pretty good idea. What do I do?

Don't wash it everyday.
You wash it every other thats good. If you wash it every day it will get weighed down and when you are older it wil be bad.

Yes, and the person at the salon I go to says no to wash your hair everyday either. Going to the salon every 2-4 weeks is too much. Its ok to wash it everytime you go to the salon but you should go every 4-8 weeks.
But you need to wash more than once a week!
But if your hair just isn't straight, Oh well. It just isnt so try to do something with it the way it is. Flat Irons are bad for you.

Ok I'm a bit confused. Do you have have that is very curly? or just wavey. Is the question how often do I wash my hair because you don't want to restraighten the hair every other day or so?

Here's a thought. You have to options 1 chemically straighten w/ a relaxer or perm or the Japanese Straightening system. 2 live w/ the curly hair and have the benefits of 2 worlds. Curly on the days you want them and straight on the day you want straight.

Washing..Hmm good question. Depends on you and how much you can deal w/ the hair not being clean.
I for one go 2-3 days before shampooing and conditions. Some people go a full week. It truly is up to you.
If you have chemically straightened hair you will need to deep condition at least once a week. This puts back proteins that were stripped out.

Straightening w/ a flat iron. PLEASE USE a Thermal product to protect it from the heat and lock in moisture. IT will be your best friend.

Hope this answers your question.

This all depends on your hair. Take a look at your hair. If it feels heavier or oily, don't hesistate to wash it everyday. For some people washing it everyday can deplete the natural oils in your hair, and make it scalp feel a bit dry. It really depends on yourself. If you are comfortable washing your hair twice a day or even 3 times a week, go ahead. Personally, I get paranoid if i don't wash my hair every single day. I feel dirty :P

Also, try alternating between shampoos. Doing this regularly can help keep your hair cleaner, and healthier.

As for straightening, try getting your hair straightened at a salon or something once a month. If you are going to use a hair straightener, try not to do it too often! it will damage your hair.

How often you wash depends on your hair type. Mine happens to be fairly thick, but yucky straight & on the oily side. If I go more than 2 days without washing, I could change the oil in your car with my greasy hair! It's ok to wash oily hair more often. If your hair is dry(I mean not oily), wash it every 2-3 days. How thick it is doesn't really matter too much.
It's really all personal. If you think you are not washing enough, then maybe you're not. If you think your doing it as often as you should, then don't change your habbits just because someone tells you you should. Do what ever makes you feel comfortable. (But don't use that hot iron everyday, though. You'll cinge your hair butt good, & that's bad!)

I think you should wash your hair at least once a week. That will remove the product build up from your hair and scalp and keep your head fresh and clean. What type of hair do you have anyway?? And I see that you have to flat iron your hair, so I would suggest wrapping your hair at nights to keep it straight and to avoid having to continuously straighten it in-between washes, because that only leads to breakage and damage.

If your hair has a relaxer, then I would wash it every week with a shampoo that is for hair that meant for hair that is processed. If you can't go to the salon every week to get it done, then wash your hair at home and practice wrapping your hair on your own if you don't know how to do that already. Get a good wrapping lotion, shampoo and conditioner.

Contrary to popular belief, washing ones hair and washing ones scalp don't need to be the same thing.

Wash you hair when your hair needs washing. Wash your scalp when your scalp needs washing. In either case, rinse thoroughly.

Your scalp has natural oils and sheds dead skin the same as the rest of the body. Both need to be rotated away from the scalp, by washing or by rinsing or by mechanical methods (i.e. brushing or massage).

In the Middle Ages it was traditional to wash hair on August 13th . . . in between they just did their best to not get it dirty. I suspect something more often than yearly and less often than every two weeks might be right for your hair.

i wash it at least once a day, but it's healthy to wash it 3-4 times a week, if you don't wash it that often, you can get dandruff.
