What do you think about gene therapy?
And once it becomes available to the public, is it ethical to use it to alter genes in your future children, etc. ?
What uses are ethical and what uses are unethical?

i think that gene therapy is a great thing when its used for necessary reasons, such as curing genetic diseases but i think that trying to alter future childrens genes to make them look a certain way is unethical and enforces vanity and the idea that people should look one way

Well it can be tailored to suit your specific faults. If you have cyctic fribrosis then you can technically help fix the lungs etc
I think you are thinking about the genetically engineered children which is different...(ie not choosing eye colour, sex etc)..this is helping people who have genetic mutations which cause diseases eg Huntingtons Disease, CF, haemophilia, Duchenne muscular Dystrophy etc etc etc

Probabaly unethically the way goes for selecting embryos that have disease but more so for insurance companies wanting you to be tested to see if you have certain diseases and then charging you money for having it (if you choose not to get gene therapy or charging you for potentially using it in the future)

with medication, many who used to die by gene defect, can survived and breed another gene defected generation. and so the medication is more and more needed.

since to let a human die is avoided, i do think gene therapy is a key for human evolution.

by the bible? we wish to go back to heaven where we once belong, so preserving / cure human health is alowed, but enhacing it may mostly seen unethical . . eg: life extension, forever young, clone, ect
