Pad the area and keep the blister from breaking open if possible. If blisters can heal with the skin intact you have less chance of having to deal with an infection and far less pain.
Having your shoes stretched is a good idea but you can do it for free. Place a gallon size zip lock plastic bag in your shoe fill it with water just enough to fill the inside of your shoe, twist tie or zip lock the bag then place shoe in freezer over night. The expansion of the water freezing will stretch the shoes for you.

There is no real substitute for proper medical attention, but you can alleviate pain and manage it with the following simple technique. It’s based on the work of Richard Bandler and John Grinder, founders of NLP. It works by acknowledging how you are experiencing the pain then re-coding the experience such that it dissolves the discomfort. You can use this technique on other forms of pain and discomfort such as headaches, hangovers, muscular aches etc. You can also adapt it to work on troublesome feelings like anger, hate etc.
It may help to have someone read these steps out to you, pausing while you accomplish each step before moving on.
Steps
Rate the pain on a scale of 0 – 10, 0 being low/no pain and 10 being high. Decide what number you want to be, or what you will settle for.
See the pain as a picture or film in your head. If the picture has movement alter the movement to one that is more pleasing. For example, if you’re seeing the pain as a hammer banging against the area of discomfort, place a soft cushion in its path. If the picture has sound, change it to suit you or turn down the volume.
Change the colour of the pain to one that suits you and reduces the pain from number ---- to number -------.
Project the picture of the pain onto a screen in front of you and reduce the size of the picture.
Reduce the picture further to the size of a small bubble. Watch the bubble rise into the air and float up to the clouds. As the bubble reaches the clouds, the pain reads number 1.
Watch as the bubble fades away into the clouds. As it fades, so does the pain leaving only a faint memory.
Physical Method
Squeeze right above your stubbed toe with your other foot.
Stick your feet in hot water until you feel a little better.
Stick them in cold water.
Massage your toe lightly.
Tips
Try this out at every opportunity, on yourself and others. Soon it will become second nature to approach all areas of discomfort this way.

Those annoying blisters always come up. But how do you treat them?
Steps
Ice the blister to 3-5 minutes.
Swab the blister with hydrogen peroxide, then let it air dry.
Cover it with a bandage to prevent it from opening and becoming infected.
If you are hiking you may need to keep moving, if this is the case you should either cut out a patch of moleskin to place on the blister to reduce friction, or by lancing the blister. To lance the blister pierce it with a sterilized needle or pin drain, and bandage.
Tips
Whatever you do, don't pop the blister, especially if you are in a water area.
Warnings
If the blister looks red, you have to pop it. If not, don't.

Just leave it. The fluid that has built up inside the blister is doing so to provide a cushion for whatever it is rubbing up against. You might want to switch over to more comfortable shoes or sandals too.
The blister will eventually go away on its own. To prevent further problems, take your shoes to a shoe repair shop and have them "stretched." It only costs a couple of bucks.
