I've read studies that long cycling can decrease blood flow to both men and womens genital areas.

They say that even gel seats aren't good for long biking.

I love cycling but I don't want to put myself at risk

are their any seats that are known to be good for your goods?

that wouldn't lead to or raise the risk of damage????

thanks

Those studies are bogus. The real question is, does cycling cause impotence. Not "does cycling reduce blood flow".

And the answer is, nobody knows - because nobody's done a real scientific study on cyclists and impotence.

Now, the main problem with seats is that people are sitting on them wrong. If you get a correct fitting to your bike, your "sit bones" of the butt should be the pressure points, and relatively little or no pressure on the soft tissue.

Spongy gel seats make this impossible, because the gel makes the pressure even on the whole seat. So actually, gel seats are worse than a properly fitted hard seat.

For one, this issue is way overrated. It can cause impotence on riders that ride several times per week for several years, and only to those with some inclination to this (like 2% percent of guys that ride for aloooong time).

Gel seats are not good actually. The gel does tend to get, er, inside that area and cause more pressure rather than helping.

Saddles that have a channel at the middle helps, as well as changing positions during the ride.

The goal is to find a seat that works for you. We are all different shapes and require different sized saddles to make it work. There are saddles with gaps in the middle. Some riders find these comfortable and some riders don't.

Just to put your mind at ease a bit, I've been a road racer for many years and I'm happy to say that many of my teammates are proud fathers. I've never heard of any cyclist I know having trouble outside of the articles that you read.

I've always used traditional road bike seats. I ride over 15000 miles per year and have never had a problem in that area.

I've seen special split seats that are supposed to allow blood flow in this important area. I've never tried one myself, but I've heard that they help.

i ride with a seat that has a gap where the "boys" are most comfortable. The seats at the local health club do not offer such, and thus EVERYTHING gets numb after about 20 minutes. I suffered such with a regular seat, and thus invested a good hefty $35.00 for a decent seat that left the boys feeling like themselves. i hate riding and feeling like i had just been castrated...of course those that don the lance armstrong uniform most likely have nothing between their legs so, thus is why they are rude when they attempt to pass you, without aknowledging their presence.
