Dom Pérignon is about $100 and is very good.

By the way, if you like sweet wine. Ice Wines are quite sweet, quite good and can be quite expensive. Get the ones from germany not the ones from california. In cal they use liquid nitrogen to freeze the grapes in germany they pick them during the first freeze.

If champagne is anything like wine, you will not notice the difference between a good $15 bottle and a $100 bottle.

Go into a store and ask them for a good bottle in the 10-15 dollar range. Spend the rest of the money on something else.

I know with wine there are some great wines for ten bucks, I think this is the same for champagne.

The best way to sample some really good champagnes (or any other type of wine) is to go wine tasting. Some wineries let you taste for free while others charge a tasting fee. It's a great way to sample wines and discover which you enjoy. Learn about wine tasting at California wineries at this site: http://www.cheers2wine.com.

This is a great sparkling wine that is far less than $100 (you can probably buy 5 bottles!):
Greg Norman Estates NV Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir - Champagne & SparklingThe wine is a pale straw green in color and it has a very fine, yet persistent bead. On the nose there are lifted strawberry, citrus and nutty aromas with just a hint of sherbet character. On the palate it is a medium to full bodied style with generous stonefruit and citrus flavors and a very smooth, yet generous finish. ($16.79)

What's good really depends on your taste.

If you mean what's expensive and what expert thinks it is good, that is one thing, but what you would like, that is a totally different question.

What I suggest you do is this:

In almost every major town, there is a wine shop and sometimes a wine bar. Pick a time where they are not busy, and sit down with the shop person and talk about it. Let him/her recommend you a nice bottle. Don't bring up the price until later in the conversation.

Quite often, many wine places hosts tasting. Perhaps you can participate in it.

By the way, you don't have to spend 100 dollars. You can buy a good champagne for less than half that.

If it's not something you drink often, you probably won't tell the difference between a $30 bottle, and a more expensive one. If it is a gift you are looking for, go with dom.

Also, don't be put off by "sparkling wine" on the label. In order for it to be considered "champagne", it has to be made in Champagne, France. Sparkling wine is the same thing, made elsewhere.

Cooks makes a decent one, for 15-20 a bottle. Of course, if you are pretentious, you will snub your nose at it.

I've had Dom Pérignon several times and i think it's way overpriced -- there are better champagnes for less. Go to your local good wine shop (not Costco) and ask to try something from one of the smaller champagne makers. Try something from Delamotte (maybe the Blanc De Blancs), Diebolt-Vallois or Jacquesson (these may be hard to find, they're just examples).

P.S. there's nothing wrong with Costco if you know what you want exactly, but when you need good wine advice, go elsewhere.

P.S.#2 -- General rule: If rappers like to drink it while partying, don't bother buying it.

I am only an expert on New Years Eve but I like Martini and Rossi for 13$ a bottle. Sweet and bubbly, goes down smooth then gives you the champagne tingle afterward. How many days till January.

you can try the rose vueve clicquot. Guthrie champagne from France, gloria ferrer's sparkling wine and some royal cuvee, frexinets, roeder estates.... all these are under $100 bucks.

Go for the Dom Perignon. You will not regret it! Costco has a great buy on the larger magnum too.
