The best thing you can do is stay clean and sober. No tattoos either.

So far as high school, do the best you can in all your classes.

Good fields in the military? That all depends on what you want to do....you can do just about anything you'd like, if you show the aptitude for it (you'll have to take some tests, called ASVAB - your recruiter can tell you about that). You can fly, you can fix aircraft, you can become a computer technician or a cook. The military needs policemen, fire fighters, medical staff, plumbers, carpenters and bus drivers. They have just about any technician or specialist that a civilian community has. They provide the training, you provide your willingness to learn and prove yourself.

Don't let the anti-war, anti-military crowd fool you. The military can be a great career. It is also a great way to get started in Life after high school. I wish you the very best of luck in whatever you decide.

I would recommend a few things. First join a JROTC unit if your high school has one. If not, look into Civil Air Patrol. If you are good at school, study hard and go to college and become an officer. Officers are treated much better and get paid much more. I think the Air Force treats it's people better then any of the other services. I found the intelligences field very rewarding. Good luck, I hope you like it I did!

Try to be in shape when you get to your training!

Oh Honey - I am so torn. As a mother I just wanted to say a big fat forget it!!!! My son was very into the idea when he was your age and as much as my heart wanted to discourage him I took him to recruiters, I took him to air shows (he wanted to fly) I took him to any and all fairs that he could meet and talk with all the varieties of the armed forces. Each force we visited would be his favorite the next day. The Navy would tell him he had a better chance of flying with them than with the Air Force. I am just saying that the recruiters are pretty slick.
Cute, but slick. They are salesmen, and are judged upon how many recruits they get. So take it all with a grain of salt.
They even tracked him from age 14.
Talk to every Veteran and inservice miliary man and woman you can find. Pick thier brain. As someone said above, there are a million different occupations in the military. Think ahead. What would you want to do when you got out? I see now that a lot of the good IT guys now have a military background and that is where they learned it. Anything Medical is going to pay you very well when you get out and have to take care of all us old geezers. There is no limit.
As for prep, everyone here pretty well called it. Stay clean.
Good grades, extra afterschool activities. (Hey I even know a guy in a famous band-who shall remain nameless- who was in the Marine corp. Band -now he is a Major Rocker.
You would be Surprised!!!
P.S. My son? never did join the military. Actually I think his father talked him out of it. But I don't know if I could have handled thia fisaco as a mother anyway. WAY overprotective!
But in the beginning I tried to be supportive. I hope your parents can be too.

Hi,Im 14 too.My parents can pay 50% of my college tuistion immedietely but not the other 50%.So I am planning on my options, military is just a consideration.I lack the qualifications, but then again, its just a consideration.

My art teacher was in the Navy,he told me that you had to have good endurance. So push ups and running are the ametuer way to go.And of course you might want to be patriotic, some High Schools have an ROTC or a cadet program, its hard to get into but good grades are neccessary.

The military is a way of life and not for everyone. Id think long and hard and make sure that this is what you want to do. If so, great decision. Make sure you go into a job that you enjoy because itll make your military career that much more enjoyable. Good luck!

Join Cadets.. it's for people aged 12-19 and is like a mini army, navy or air force.. teaches you lots of stuff you actually will eventually learn. If you join air cadets you can have you power license (to fly a plane) by the time you age out (at 19).
They teach you drill, the chain of command, how to do your uniform, it basically gives you a little taste of what the life will be.

Look into the high school you are going to attend later on. Do they have JROTC? If they do, that is one of the best if not the best way to get you prepare for the military life ahead. Of course if your school don't offer JROTC or do not have the branch you like, you will either have to wait until college to do ROTC or go to others schools for their JROTC program.

Also if you are interested in the Marines, check out Young Marines' website, it's kind of like JROTC, but for Marines:

http://www.youngmarines.com

Or if you like flying look into CAP and the cadet program, they have ways to get you stripes in AF by the time you graduate from the program:

http://www.cap.gov

If you have any more questions, feel free to email me at paraboy89@aol.com and I can help you out with anything that you need.

Good luck and hope to hear from you soon.

Get good grades. Take a course in law enforcement. Enroll in wrestling and/or track. Stay away from anyone or anything that has anything to do with drinking or drugs. Don't be the class clown, stay out of trouble, be respectful. During the summer you should volunteer at your local law enforcement agency, or ask what is similar to that and explain why. You will do fine. Congrats!

Everyone is stuck on the war, the military can be a good career. Study in school and get the best education you can, study history, US and World. Start getting in shape and keep in shape. Stay out of trouble in school and the law.

First off let me say, thats very very cool....I am happy to hear that there are young people out there still willing to serve their country..... Dont let any tree huggers try to sway your hopes or dreams!!!!!!!! As far a preperation goes, Try to concentrate on getting the body FIT!!! Dont worry so much about the mind as the armed forces are going to BREAK YOU DOWN first then BUILD you back up....Lots of LONG distance running is a good place to start. also try to work on any type of ab workouts as this will come in handy( TRUST ME) .........
