I keep hearing how our legal system is based on the 10 Commandments. So, what punishments would you advocate for;

1. Worshiping a non-Judea Christian God?
2. Making a idol?
3. Swearing, using god and Jesus Christ as profanity?
4. Working on Sundays?
5. Not honoring parents?
6. Playing hide the salami with a married woman?
7. Buying a bigger plasma TV because your neighbor bought one?
8. Telling a lie?

9. Do you really think these would make good foundational laws? We're looking at eight out of the ten here folks.

I’d really like to hear Christians weigh in on this one.

Well, I guess we'd have to use the gentle biblical method, the humane method, which was stoning to death.

It's kind of a group activity...the accused is led out, and rocks are thrown at them until they're dead.

Hail Eris! All Hail Discordia!

(duck and cover, just like Tommy the Turtle!)

As a Christian I would like to weigh in on this, but I am having a hard time doing so. First, where do you "keep hearing" this? The commandments you have listed are more applicable to our duties (as Christians) that we owe God, than our civic duties. What I mean to say is the laws of the land are important, and are allowed for in the Bible, but as Christians we have convictions that go deeper than that. These Commandments being broken don't beg for a punishment that man can hand down, only God.

I think we should just start over with our laws. People dont respect them anyway. It seems to me that we christians do not have much weight, laws are changed just for one person. This does not seem to be fare to me. It would be hard if not imposssable to put laws on how we talk in public, cursing and fowel language. I have made coments on how people curse GOD in my presence, and they did not care. And jobs do not care if we go to church or not, so we have to work on sundays. Maybe if our employers seen a difference in our job performance and attitudes, then mayabe they would not only give us the time off, but would go with us. I am not sure how we can use the law to enforce our children to honor us as parents. This is or should be tought at home, and in our churches, and even in our schools. If we were so concerned about sdome of theses issues then why do we do just the opposite, lioke take prayer out os schools, and the teaching of doing what is right by the law and good citizenship??? As many of our children do not have examples to fallow, or people that care if they come to school or not. How many teachers even wonder why a student can not perform in class, or why he acts out?? How can the government make laws governing us about tellling the truth when even they do not tell the truth. I am not sure if I have understood the question.

you are able to disbelieve christian doctrine and nonetheless be attentive to a minimum of something approximately it. in case you do no longer want all of us right here to have get admission to on your question, positioned up it someplace else. Penitence has an prolonged historic previous with christianity, subsequently the term "detention center". classic punishment interior the U.S. justice equipment has been the shortcoming of one's freedom, each now and then for something of one's organic existence. historic penances have been far greater extreme, however the reason is a similar, to punish incorrect doing for it is very own sake.

How come you left out murder and stealing. Oh yea those are laws. Since we can't have the ten commandments in our court houses I guess having them in our law books is a violation of church and state. We have to make murder and burglary legal so we don't offend someone with Gods word.

Not a christian.. just glad you're back (((((((Grimmy)))))))

And to answer your question, dear goddess I hope not.
If we base it on the bible, we'd have to kill all of those who broke those commandments and that would wipe out the entire U.S. population over the age of 3 in no time flat.
