Do the families of the deceased usually cremate them, because of fear of grave desecration?

Can people protest to having that person buried next to their dead relatives, or their own reserved plot?

For example when Charles Manson or whomever dies, and you find out that he's gonna be buried next to the plot you've just bought for yourself and your spouse?

Is it the duty of the cemetary operators to disclose that info to everyone?

Actually yes--happens all the time. Especially over 200 years ago. Numerous people were refused burial by the catholic church for decisions made in life--practicing science, going against the belief in the church, being divorced, many many things.

They were buried in "unsacred ground".

This happened in America, when Puritans were busy hanging Quakers. None of them were buried in the church cemetary.

This practice goes back thousands of years in history and is mentioned in Antigone.

In New Orleans, it is common practice to be buried on top of someone else due to the lack of available space. I would be more concerned on who I was on top of than who I was next to.

Currently the more strict churches like Greek Orthodox and Orthodox Jewish churches have many rules and regulations including any body alterations like tattoos or pierces or the last time the person has been to church.

Yes when you buy a cemetary plot, you are free to find out who has bought the plots beside you and request to be moved to another plot or sell your plot if you have reasons against being beside this person. However it is not the duty of the cemetary to disclose that--but the duty of the plot owner to request that information.

Hope this answered all your questions. My grandfather worked in the funeral industry for years!

Probably. Many Jewish cemeteries will not allow a person with a tattoo to be buried there. If people can be refused for that, I am sure they can be refused on the basis of their criminal past.

Most of the time when you buy a cemetery plot you select what area and they will tell you the family(s) next or close to you

It is up to you to ask that information.

If a cemetery is a private business it's free to refuse to contract with you. Particularly if doing so is likely to cause harm to business and it's other clients.
