Late Tuesday night, I suddenly developed a VERY painful sore throat. It wasn't exactly sore...but it was just painful. I couldn't even swallow and I could hardly eat. I got a high fever (it went to at least 101.5, but I think it was even higher) all day Wed. but that finally went away with ibuprofen. I felt very nauseous too. Yesterday, I thought I was getting a little better. I fell asleep for a few hours and woke up today with extreme chest pain. My chest hurt really bad and it felt like it was full...kind of the feeling when you have a bad chest cold but I know this isn't a chest cold. I suddenly developed a very painful dry cough with sometimes a little bit of wheezing and difficulty breathing. This has been miserable for me. I've never had throat pain and chest pain this bad. I'm pretty sure this isn't a cold or strep. I have not been anywhere near any sick people. This developed out of nowhere. I thought this was just a throat problem I have a lot but it's not. Any ideas? Thanks.

I have also had hot flashes since yesterday and I am not a smoker.

Um...who said hot flashes have to do with smoking? I was just adding I had hot flashes and that the coughing isn't attributed to smoking. I am not able to go to the doctor right now and was just asking what this could be. If you aren't serious then don't respond dumbasses.

See your pcp to get checked. They can do a quick swab test and find out during that visit if it's strep. At least you could rule that out. If not they know what types of tests to run for you. Fever usually is an indicator of infection. Since you said you had a painful sore throat maybe it is strep. Are there white spots on the back of your throat? That's a sign of strep also. If it viral, it will have to run it's course. Bacterial of course can be treated with antibiotic.

Go to a doctor? If you can't swallow, you might even have rabies.

time to visit your doctor.
and hot flashes don't have anything to do with smoking.
