Make an appointment for your husband with his primary doctor and go with him. Start writing down questions to ask the doctor and take your list of questions with you. Tell him/her exactly what signs your husband is showing that make you think he is suffering from depression.
It could be something physical or a medication he is already taking that is causing him to seem depressed.
My father, in his late 70's recently suffered a heart attack. He was a very active person up to the heart attack and when he came home all he could do was lie on the couch. He would try to go to church but once he was cleaned up and dressed he was too tired. His doctor's changed his medications and he is doing a lot better.
My husband suffers from chronic depression and once he got on the right medication, it made all the difference in the world.
Don't give up!

I think he is bored, of his retired life, and he needs to pick up a hobby, or maybe even a part time job, just to keep him active. If money is no problem, then pack it up, and take a nice trip somewhere. It sounds like he needs a distraction, from what he is doing now. The more active you are, the better you feel, so talk to him and maybe just tell him, we are going to Hawaii, so start packing.

Men are so arrogant and prideful they don't ever want to admit that something might be wrong, he is supposed to take care of you and your family. Be the big strong man. Maybe he doesnt want to say anything b/c he is embarrased. Alot of people get embarrassed about depression. just sit down and talk to him. It is something that is so common now. he shoudl not be embarrased. Just let him know how much you care for him and that you are there for him.

The above advice is good..just remember that if he does not improve soon, it's important to seek your doctors help.
If he is clinically depressed, what tends to happen is, he will continue to spiral downwards..depression is great at feeding off itself!
Sorry to sound so morbid...but at least you care about your husband..that will help him, more than you will know! trust me.

Do you think he's depressed because of his health? Or because he's not working any more?
If you think he's seriously depressed, you should call his doctor before he goes in for his next appt. (when hubby's not around, of course), express your concerns STRONGLY, and ask for help.

Cuddle close to him and be silent. If you do this at peace, he will cry, and the truth will leak out.
Just be gentle, close, tender and listen.
That's all.
