i've had problems with cramps in my lower back during races in the past. i have attributed this pain to my lack of proper stretching, since i am in good health.

i know some basic stretches that help me during a regular ride, but what will prevent that pain in my lower back during a race?

It might not only be lack ot stretching. It could be lack of change. Try to change your position periodically to get the back moving around. Ride some in the drops and some on the tops of the bar.
