My doctor prescribed me .25 Xanax to take up to twice a day as needed as I am adjusting to my new antidepressant (cymbalta) since it increased my anxiety. The Xanax definitely helps take the edge off the anxiety, and makes you feel pretty good (to the person who said .5 doesn't do anything... well I am pretty tiny, so the .25mg doesn't "mess me up" but it definitely relaxes me and makes me feel pretty happy)
I'm trying to only take it when I really need it since a lot of people say it can be addictive, and I don't think I'll be getting any more once this prescription runs out.
You may be worried about feeling "doped up" but from my experience I am a lot more productive at work when I am maybe a little tired but calm/relaxed rather than on the brink of a panic attack. I found I was more able to concentrate when a million thoughts weren't running through my head.

I don't want to give you the idea that my family is all a bunch pill poppers, but I've taken Xanex as well as several of my family members. My husband's job requires him to travel quite a bit, but he's terrified of flying. His doctor prescribed Xanex for him, and it has been a huge help. My mother-in-law took it when her husband had a debilitating stroke, and she was unable to cope. My mother has also taken Xanex for panic about work related issues. Used properly the drug is very helpful. It doesn't make you feel stoned or drunk. It just makes you not care about your fears so that you can get through your day and do the things you need to. It might make you sleepy though, especially if you are already sleep deprived.
Good luck and give yourself a break. Dealing with the stress of a new baby is difficult for anyone, and you are experiencing an even harder time the most. Things will get better.

Sorry you are having so much anxiety. I have taken Xanax and never felt doped up. I took it for panic attacks, but I found out later that Paxil is a better drug for panic attacks. What my Dr. failed to mention about Xanax is that it is physically addicting. When I went to get off I went through withdrawals. I was taking 6 mg a day! If I were you, I would try it, but just take it as needed.Try to skip a day here and there, and just AVOID HIGH DOSES. Used like this, it might be just what u need right now.

I can honestly state that Xanax has been the most destructive force in my entire life. It is amazingly addictive. My husband who suffers from severe anxiety as result of horrific abuse as a child was prescribed Xanax several years ago. I liken it to putting a Band Aid on a heart attack. Simply taking a pill for something that is causing you such stress is only hiding the true issues. They wont get resolved just because you can "forget" about them for a while. I suggest that you get to the root of the anxiety. See a different type of doctor, like a psychiatrist or mental health professional. I cannot tell you how simple yet important this is.

I have taken xanex. is is mostly used for anxiety, or if your having any panic attacks, can also be used to help relax you if your having trouble with stress.being you have just had a baby. that's normal for doctors to do now a days with post par tum. so it does not turn into something like major depression.

Yep.a It is very likely to make a person feel way too relaxed. Speech can be slurred - it is like being drunk. You might actually start with only half that dose, until you see how you react to it. Some days, one will knock me out (for like 9 hours plus sleep) and others day one won't even affect me.
Take care....

A friend of mine has been on it for several years due to a bad divorce. She says it makes you feel drunk all the time. But not care about anything.
