Graduated High School and started College just before I turned 17 -- signed up for the Military (went on Active Duty), and was on my own since that time. Even before that age .. my siblings and I worked jobs around the neighborhood and other places so that we could contribute to the income for the family.
Unfortunately (and sadly), we (my siblings and I) buried our parents as very young adults while on Active Duty in the US Armed Forces. So for now well over a quarter of a century -- we have not had the comfort of our parents in our lives ... and it saddens us that they NEVER saw how we would go up the ranks, succeed in life, gain our Degrees, and yes, start to retire one by one ... with Military and other Retirements that we EARNED Through our hard work.

Relying on my parents for what? Advice? I am 39 years old and I still rely on my mom for advice. She is older and wiser and be a big help. I moved out on my own when I was 26.

I know I won't stop relying on them until the end of my life. They always get me going with their support, encouragement, advices etc.

I still rely on my mom for good advice, emotional support and as a good friend.
If you mean financially-- too long ago to remember.

But that wasn't neccissarily the right decision.
But it really depends on what you mean by relying.
It's ok to turn to your parents for guidance, emotional support and even financial help once in a while. Just don't EXPECT it.
