My cat had an injury one it's paw that set up infection. We took her to the vet and the vet placed her on antibotics for 14 days and placed an Elizabethian collar on her so that she could not scratch. She also instructed us to lock her indoors until she is healed and the Elizabethian collar is taken off (our cat is an outdoor cat).
Well today she had her collar taken off and foot is all well.
Problem is when I saw the cat about 2 hours ago, she has scratched bloody sores all over her head and face. It is like her skin and hair is falling out where ever she scratches. She looks horrible.
I know she is happy to finally be back outdoors but what is happening to this cat.
Please don't say take her to the vet. I can't afford another visit right now, the last one cost me over 200 dollars and I wasn't in a position to pay that but I did.
I need to know what I can do for my cat now. Could it be the antibiotics?
Thanks and only nice sensible answers....please.

No he didn't get into a fight. He is neutered.
We have set and watched him scratch some of the sore into his head. He hasn't been able to scratch in two weeks with the collar on. So he is going mad.

It sounds as though she may be allergic to some thing, most likely her antibiotics.

Try this and please don't freak out when I say it, keep reading. Just call the vets office and explain that you simply don't have the money to bring her in, tell them what is happening with her and see if they can suggest some thing that will be a cheaper idea as to what you can give her to settle her down. It may be the kind of antibiotic that they gave her, she may be allergic to it, it may be a matter of them giving her a different one. Maybe they could just give her some thing to stop the reaction to the antibiotic.

Because there are a lot of medicines that can help and it would be cheaper than a vet visit. I'm so sorry that your poor kitty and you are having to go through this. I also have a cat and I know how much it hurts when they are having problems. You just love them so much and that is why it hurts you so much.

Try to clean up the areas where she has scratched her self if you can. But do at least call the vets office and let them know that you believe she is allergic to the antibiotic. *****Animals can have allergies too, if we can have a reaction to antibiotic so can animals, after all they use the same kind of medicines on animals that we use for humans. The doses are different, that is about all.

I will keep you both in my prayers that the vet will be able to help you to fix this. Good luck.

Look, we on Yahoo Answers don't even know what antibiotic your cat was given. We haven't seen your cat, no one on here can possibly tell you what is going on. I haven't really heard of an antibiotic causing this kind of reaction at all, but every case is different.

I strongly advise getting the cat back to the vet. I know vet treatment is expensive, but it's the only treatment worth getting because they're the experts - not us. You can always just discuss this with the vet and talk about what it might cost BEFORE you spend any more. To make an informed decision on how to proceed you need to know what the vet thinks the matter is, how much further treatment will cost and how likely it is to be effective.

This does sound like a more unusual case, and these are the expensive types. Please, vets can't get it right first time all the time - but if they can't, people on Yahoo certainly can't!

Good luck, I really think you should at least have a thorough chat with your vet, even if you don't spend more.

It could be the antibiotics, but it could be something else. If she had that collar on for 7 to 10 days (for antibiotics) she was not able to clean this area. I would get a wet washcloth and have someone else hold her and wash her where she is scratching. If this does not help, I am sorry, you need to at least call the vet that saw her last time and ask him what he thinks it is. They won't charge you for the call, only if they see her again.

Put the collar on it until you can get in touch with a vet. Could be a reaction to the antibiotics, or might even be an itchy head due to fleas or something.

You sure it didn't get into a fight?

It sounds like some sort of alergic reaction.
Maybe to the meds for the foot or to fleas?
If she has fleas, I would look into that first...
My friends cat has the same problem, they haven't taken her to the vets but aparently it only happends to theirs when she is pregnant????
Lol
Try bathing in dawn if there are fleas present and getting some flea meds from the vets (assuming thats what it is)

Hope this helped
