Sounds like he's "getting up there", & that you're going to have to start keeping a closer eye on him. Try to talk to him about it; like how long does he plan to keep driving, does he want any help in doing anything, is there anything YOU can do to make his life easier... Try to ask him these things in a HELPFULL way- so that he doesn't think you're questioning his ability to do things. Remember, YOU'RE going to be in HIS shoes some day- & are you gonna want some "young whippersnapper" telling YOU want you should be doing?!! :)

He is your dad. Love him and be there to support him. He probably knows he is loosing some functions and that is where the anger comes from. Be patient and give him plenty of time to answer questions. Enjoy your time with him and as he relaxes it will be easier to communicate without pressure. If he can still pass a drivers test then let him drive. He talks to himself out of frustration. Is this the start of death? Birth is the start of death. We are all heading toward death until we get there.Live each day. I'd give anything to have those days back with my dad.

Birth is the start of death, dollface.

Dad is getting older. If you don't think he should be driving you can contact the DMV and they will make him go in for a test and possibly take away his license.

He may have the onset of Alzheimers. Go with him to a Dr appointment and ask all the questions you can think of.

It could be dementia or Alzheimers setting in. Dementia can cause older people to forget things, be impatient and irritable, and is simiar to Alzheimer's, but has other causes and generally, a very rapid onset. Has he had a stroke, aneurism, or started taking new medication? Is he depressed (another common complain among older people)? A lot of things can contribute to his deterioration, but the important thing is to talk to his dr about it.
