Chemical soloutions are not really desirable. You need to discover the reason for this problem. I would try relaxation tecniques first, soft music helps me. This can be very helpful if the problem is stress based. I don't recommend sleep aids the OTC ones are pretty weak and the prescription ones can carry some side effects that are almost as bad as the problem itself.

Nytol is a good one.. and they have it in all natural just in case you don't want to use chemical means. Other than that, try a warm bath to relax and some meditation.

smelling lavender and drinking sleepytime tea help without narcotics. also a warm bath before bedtime can help. relax as much as you can just before you want to sleep. also valerian root tablets about 30 minutes before bed.

I've used "Sleep Right" by Vivitas. It's melatonine. It's helped me fall asleep and I've had no side affects.
