The descendents have kept track, and are trying to get all the tribes back to Israel to fulfill prophecy. They are still one tribe short. The Jewish culture is very strict about keeping the lineage of the tribes intact. They have to have all 12 tribes accounted for before they can rebuild the temple, which will be quite a job anyway considering the dome of the rock is sitting on the site.
