The lotto checks are a scam. You should not send them money when they ask for it. I am not sure about the cashing part, but be wary because it is a scam

I also have received a check for the same amount and a letter with a date of May 7th to respond by. The phone number I tried calling on the check, will not go through on my cell phone and the bank I use said the area code for Oklahoma isn't real. The bank also told me a young couple just brought in a chck for the large amount and cashed it and they are responsible for paying it back, plus check cashing charges. My son said to look for the water seal on the back, which I don't see. the cashier at the bank said they have no way of telling IF it is a fake check, as their machines won't pick up the codes. I got my check yesterday and did all this calling around. She said the only way to tell if it is real, is to let the local police department check it out and to show them the letter. Myself, I'm going to do some more checking around before I throw it away, but I don't recall puttng my name out there for any lotto drawings and that's what bothers me the most.

I also got the same check and letter in the mail and am a little suspicious about it. I am doing all I can to look into it to see if it is however fraud, scam, or real....(it would be nice if it were real). If I can not find any answers that I am looking for I am going to call the authorities. I did call the number on the letter and did not get through, so I called the number on the check itself and asked the guy what to do he then gave me another number with the 403 area code and no one is answering on that line, so I called the guy back and I said I was on my way to the bank and he said no don't touch the check until going through the verification process. I am a little nervous because I don't want to end up in trouble over someone else's scheme. If anyone else has any information about what they have found please post!!!!

If you are asked to cash the check and send some money back,it is a scam for sure.
If you are not sure, have you bank check out the bank where the funds are drawn from.
If you cash the check, deposit it into an escrow account until the check clears and the funds are actually transferred to the escrow account.
That way you will be protected if it turns out to be a scam in the end and it will be easier to return the money to your bank since you will be legally responsible for the money.
You pay taxes on the winnings when you file your tax returns every year and most winnings have some money withheld automatically by law for the purpose of paying some of the tax obligation you incurr.

I also received this letter and check in the amount of 1998.00. I have searched the entire check for the small print stating by signing i agree to terms and conditions but do not see it anywhere. I did try to phone the company the check is written on but it doesn't appear to be a business phone. I looked them up online and fired off an email to them to see if this check is real or not. I will let you know if i receive a reply. I feel this is a scam but it sure would be nice to have the extra money.

I also received this same letter and and the check for $1998. I would say by everyones respond that it is clear that it is a fraud. Especially since we all won the same amount.
I want to know is how do we stop this and alert others that might be receiving this. Is there anyone that will take the letter and check to research the culprit?

I just received the exact same letter. I'm pretty sure it is fake. When you call the number they will tell you to send so much money western union. You'll notice they only give you a few days to claim that prize. Remember it normally takes 10 days for a check to clear. the scam artist are hoping you will deposit the check and withdraw the amount for your so called taxes are forward to the international claim agent and leave you holding the bag. Don't fall for it.

it's an identity theft thing. They've stolen the account numbers etc. from an individuals and made a check out to look like it's drawn on a company. The phone number for the company is fake and if you cash it you'll have to pay it and fees back and face check fraud charges.

I just received the same letter & check. I am depositing the check in an account we keep open separate from our regular checking. That way there is no link nor connection. It is no doubt a scam but I will take their money.
