The handle on the toilet stool broke, so i bought a new one and when i took the old one out, i cut my thumb on the part that sits on the inside. (It was rusted). I washed my hands real good, and i put achohol on the cut. Am i okay? ( i also live in an apartment building and i don't know where the water goes or what might be on the inside of the toilet

It kinda depends really...
Check if there is oozing from the wound, and if it smells bad. If it is then there is possibly an infection....also if the wound is taking longer than normal to heal then thats another sign. And if there is a pale red colour ring around the cut it might be infected aswell.
But if not, then you'll be ok....and putting alcohol on it would have helped to prevent infection anyway.

One thing I would consider is when you had your last tetnus shot. I think they are good for 5 years.. so if you haven't had one for over 5 years, I'd consider going and getting one just to be on the safe side. You probably cleaned the wound well enough, but it never hurts to be safe than sorry when dealing with the rust.

This is all great advice. The thing that concerns me would be the tetanus shot. Five years is considered a fair expiration date. If you're not sure, better safe. Take care...

you should probably clean it out some more with some hibiclens or betadine if you have it, cover it and go to urgent care or ER. it concerns me because it was rusted not because of the water or bacteria, (however remind the doctor of it he may want to give you some antibiotics depending) however because of the rust it may have tetanus (lock jaw) so you may want to get a tetanus booster and get it irrigated and cleaned.

LULA,
THIS WOULD FALL UNDER THE BUILDING MANAGER'S RESPONSIBILITY. YOU DIDN'T CAUSE THE HANDLE TO BREAK BY USING A HAMMER OR PRYBAR, SO THIS FALLS UNDER BUILDING MAITENANCE. MAKE SURE YOU WRITE DOWN WHAT HAPPENED SIGN AND DATE IT, AND TELL A FRIEND OR SOMEONE ELSE ABOUT THE WHOLE INCIDENT.
CHANCES ARE GOOD THAT WITH THE CARE YOU TOOK, YOU'LL BE JUST FINE.
