I'd be very surprised if they were compatible.
Mercury Villager is a rebadged Nissan Quest from 1993 to 2002. Windstar actually came out later, in 1995, and was actually a bit LARGER vehicle than the Villager. The two vehicles should share NO components at all, as the Villager would be built in the Nissan's TN plant, and the Windstars are built in Ford's Ontario, Canada plant.
Besides, you don't really WANT a used Windstar transmission. Windstar had a troubled history of engine gasket failures, electrical problems, and dead transmissions that also plagued the Taurus for many years.

The transmissions are not compatable. The villager has a nissan engine and transmission. When we need parts for a villager, we call a nissan dealership for parts. The best vehicle that would match up is a nissan quest.

windstars use one of a few transmissions axod,ax4s or ax4n.
the villager uses a 4f20e. they are very different and can not be made to interchange

i dont think so and even if it did....too much work with the rear end for it to make any sense much better to get a whole new windstar transmission

yes they are compatible and I know because my dad messed up the transmission in our mercury and the only one we could find is a ford transmission and it worked out.
