Ok, a user named Lucy44 just posted this in a separate question:
"I don't believe in jehovah's witnessess. I'm sorry,
because their belief is strange, weird. Such as having more than one wife, drinking ice tea is against their religion, I don't know why? and they don't drink any kind of sodas. They believe a woman is suppose to wear skirts and dresses all the time. And if you write with a red pen, they believe it's the devils pen your writing with, because it bleeds. Now, isn't all this so stupid?
That's why I don't believe in jehovah's witnessess.
They take religion too far to the extreme. They
over do it.Don't get me wrong, I do believe in God
and Jesus Christ and I have faith in both, but
Jehovah's Witnessess is rediculous"

That's Mormons, not us!
NONE OF THESE ARE APPLICABLE TO WITNESSES!!!
Not a single one of these assertions are correct- in fact, I have a red pen sitting on my desk right now!!

Why don't people ask for confirmation before stating rumours as fact?

Uh, insulting me and calling me a cult member is definitely NOT going to get you a best answer vote.

So you might as well be nice!

And for the record, Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses are completely different from one another.

Oh, gee, I'm so sorry to disappoint you Lucky Fokker, but some of us have to work for our livelihood.

True bettierage- I was not trying to disparage the Mormons in any way. I was stating that the originator of the comment had Mormons in mind when she wrote her comment.

I know that many of those assertions apply to sects of Mormonism, but not the religion as a whole :0)

If you have been on YA for any amount of time, you know that there are very nasty people on here who seem to delight in making disparaging remarks about people who are not just like them. You should also already know that these people are not concerned with the truth; they are only concerned about themselves and their own beliefs. In their minds, they say: "I've already made up my mind; don't confuse me with the facts." I'll make you a deal...I will speak up about how this kind of thing is wrong and when people say nasty things about Jews, will you speak up for me?

Yes Lucy, that is all so stupid!
Only stupid people would believe such lies.

and seeing such lies against these people makes me think of Jesus' words at Matthew 5:11 "Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake."
I guess since JWs are preaching from house to house like Jesus instructed and the Apostles also did, that's why people lie about them.
Matthew 24:14
Luke 4:43
Luke 10:1-3
Acts 5:42
Acts 8:4
Acts 20:20
1 Corinthians 9:16
Romans 10:15
2 Timothy 4:2-5
Matthew 4:23a
Matthew 9:35a
Luke 9:6a
1 Peter 2:21
John 13:15
1 John 2:6
The more of these lies and hatred I read against JWs the more it makes me think that perhaps they *are* the only organization of true worship.

I have been looking deeply into the beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses now for more than 10 years. I have also been studying theology, the history of religion and all other "major" belief systems of this world for over 25 years. I have learned that JWs have made many mistakes over the past 120 years. I’m pretty sure they are every bit as imperfect as Jacob, Moses, David, Solomon, Peter and Paul so I’ll bet dollars to donuts they will commit some more human errors before God establishes His “Kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven“!
But so far in my search of imperfect human organizations claiming to believe in the God of the Bible, I haven't found any other worldwide organization closer to pure Christian worship.

agape!

LOL, that would be too much like right. It's easier to demonize people you really don't know, or don't want to take the time to get to know.

It's not Jehovah's Witnesses who are ridiculous, but unthinking people like this.

Jehovah's Witnesses do have distinctive beliefs, all of them based squarely on the Bible, rather than on human tradition.

As for having our "own" Bible, so what? The Catholics have their "own" Bibles, Jews have their "own" Bibles, and Evangelicals and other Protestants have their "own" Bibles, and several rather good translations are one-man productions: Rotherham, Moffatt, J. B. Phillips, William Barclay, Charles B. Williams, just to name a few.

What matters is the quality of the translation, not the theological bias against it. The New World Translation is published in many languages, and is used daily by millions of people around the world, and has been critiqued -- but never successfully refuted -- by every kind of scholar.

Even so, most of the criticism has come, not from objective examination of grammatical exegesis, but simply because the NWT does not agree with certain doctrines which, in fact, can be proven to be false with any translation.

But all those things are man-made rules. Not God's... Most all religions seem to have those. It's not that big of a deal though, it doesn't change the Word of God or make it any less true. Really, all religions are kind of a cult... like minded people believing and to some extent conducting their lives by the same values. But again, because people screw things up, doesn't make God any less real. I think it's sad that people give up on God or won't believe Him because of the mess that people have made of things - they can't distinguish the difference. I still think religion can be a great thing - I go to church all the time. I take what I want, and leave what I want.

To all my brothers and sisters: Eph 5:4 neither shameful conduct ***nor foolish talking*** nor obscene jesting, things which are not becoming, but rather the giving of thanks. Do doubt Lucy 44 was misinformed. But lets not resort ourselves to insults (“stupid”), making fun, and put downs. Instead lets practice what we preach.

A few reasons “they” may get us confused
-We both go door to door
-JW’s used to ride bikes out in service, and in some countries still do.
-People in general refer to both JW’s and Mormons as a cult or sect.
-Both are known for being strict in their Biblical teachings.
-Both encourage marriage in the same faith, association in the same faith, encourage home schooling, encourage proper dress.

There are many other things and peoples personally opinion and applications to the above may be different. Those were just some of the things I could think of.

She does seem a little mixed u on her claims. I imagine someone should create a web site with the various phony claims made about JW and Mormons so that they can keep them straight and all they have to do is copy and paste as needed.

YOU JUST PLAYED INTO EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE DOING! MORMONS CAN WRITE IN RED PEN DO NOT HAVE MORE THEN ONE WIFE AND WE WERA PANTS WHENEVER WE WANT. I drink soda as well! SO you are acting just like them when you say that that is the Mormons. How can you expect others to change when you can't even change yourself?

They get us confused because they don't even bother to learn what those "cursed cults" really believe, and from those that believe. They don't realize that WE are the world's foremost authorities on what WE believe.

That's just plain sad and ridiculous.

And instead of actually asking someone who is a Jehovah's Witness, these people ask one's who have heard nothing but rumors and pure lies.

Just go to the official site for all the CORRECT info.....
