mechanic would be much better, carpenters have to work a crapload of hours and suffer through slow periods in the winter. mechanics get to work inside and have steady work all year round. Your best bet would be to get into industrial mechanics if you are in a state with a lot of manafacturing. Those positions are very tough to fill as there are not enough qualified people for those jobs anymore.

if your looking for honest hard work with good pay, carpenter. if your looking to rip off old ladys and people who know nothing of cars, mechanic. if you are going to college then major in building science....construction companies are very profitable. however if you are dead set on being a mechanic, major in mechanical engineering. i think it would be cool to open up a shop doing complete car restoration and salvage some junk yard beauties...as for just working for one or the other, i dont knwo about mechaninc but construction you work an 8-10 hour day with a 30 minute lunch break...just hope u get along well with rednecks and mexicans also learn to like beer

I too would say mechanic. We keep getting more and more cars in this country, and ask they get more and more complicated, less people can fix them themselves. You are guaranteed plenty of work all year round.
